That photo jogs a memory, Paul: My grandfather had a part time job looking after the garden of one of those houses in Escourt Road. He used to cycle from Newent- 9 miles- and back three times a week. And he was only 70-odd years old with lungs damaged by gas in WW1.
Here’s a few pictures taken around Manchester while Dean is otherwise engaged.

Presume this is a typo Moomoo, The Shell Mex and BP motor is more likely a Mk V Mandator, they used quite a number of these. Franky.

Don’t know the motor but either the driver had upset the shovel driver or it was his first go at loading. Without power steering he’d be standing up round the corners
I’m guessing but looking at it it’s looks like the shovel driver got the hump about something and putt about 100% too much on because that has been tipped up and a hell of a lot taken off. “10 ton too much driver, back to the stack and tip some off” Been there, seen it, done it, in my younger days

May I post this onto the Atkinson group pages on Facebook, please? Suitably watermarked of course!!

There’s definitely summat ■■■■ eyed with the load. I always shovelled off except ballast of course. Two choices there eh? Tip or throw off piece at a time . You wouldn’t have fancied your load there without power steering, you know better than me it was a bit of an art getting your load in the right place to make steering light but with a bit of grip. Got it wrong on a Reiver, only my second load with her, left quarry then 90 degree left turn for the motoroad she were having non of it so went straight on through Markfield village. Made a change.

That’s great photo of Bradshaws from Sturton by Stow near Gainsborough. They did a lot of backloading out of Trafford Park, drummed oil IIRC ex Esso.
I wish I’d got as many fivers as times I’ve driven on that bit of road at Ardwick Green,ex Sheffield. And also had many dodgy nights out there, easy log sheeting/booking back over Woodhead to Sheffield.![]()

A R Marshall and Sons from Bulwell Nottingham were a very large road transport company
They did a lot of work for Boots John Player and Sons and Raleigh Bicycles
They moved from their yard on Hucknall Lane in the early 90s up to Balloon Woods and ceased trading a few years later
Their Hucknall Lane yard is now occupied by a Morrisons supermarket and a large retail park

That’s a another nice photo.Chapel Street Salford is,I think, ont A6 out of Manchester, heading for A580 East Lancs Rd,Bolton etc. A route taken many times from Sheffield to Liverpool afore M621/M62 days.
I remember Marshalls from Nottingham, they had similar livery to Stirlands and George Dominic from same city. Thanks for posting Moomoo.
This is a aerial view of Bulwell you can see the waste ground opposite Bulwell Lido which was once Marshalls yard

The best “digs” in the area were just by that roundabout, Chrisanne’ s. I stayed there a lot in the early seventies.

Hi all, If I did not know better I would say that was my 240 estate in the car park, used it a lot back then.
However, no one has mentioned the 88 cutting up the round-a-bout with cars behind him.
Harvey
Thanks to everyone for there messages yesterday and to Paul for his great pics as usual.
Harvey that F88 looks alot worse than it is mucker, alot of drivers cut through that roundabout when entering it if there are no cars
along side you as there is a small incline the other side.
