Hello Deanb & Oily, Car & Commercial as far as I can remember were running well in to the 2000’s and if memory serves me correct the were bought out by STVA , I may be wrong and stand to be corrected.

The ERF belongs to International Combustion Ltd., of Derby.I think their place was on Sinfin Lane,I delivered steel there once or twice late 60s.
I don’t know what the NEI sticker stands for.
MERRY XMAS TO DEAN,PAUL,AND ALL MEMBERS
Great photos as always
Spotted Reg number TVT 997 L - thought it looked familiar on an earlier post - F88 of John Warren, this was my Dads truck when he was on Comart International- early 70s
Happy days

I.R.Dunkerley Foden.Hi Dean
Great to see another pic of a Dunkerleys lorry and all the other firms from the Bristol area most of them no longer around . Have attached the only dunkerleys pics I have from those days .
The first was taken of trucks in the yard , the second was a Trailer and crane we built up for export .
JeffHi Dean
I second all that logger said… Great pics of Dunkerleys. Great local firm with a hard worked but smart fleet. The Fodens, especially, were my favourites.
logger (Jeff) I guess you used to work for them? Didn’t they design and build their own roll along brick cranes on the trailers?
Just a useless piece of information for you - I live in the house that Sid Dunkerley (One of the sons of I.R ) bought for his daughter when it was built, in 1938
Hi Paul
I worked for Dunkerleys in the early 80s and was involved with the crane side of the business including building the rollloaders which Dunkerleys had designed have attached a pic of a sales brochure .
I R ( Ivor . Robert always known as Bob ) and Sid we’re brothers . Sid ran the garage in Chipping Sodbury high street which was originally the family business

Hello Chris, NEI was the parent company of International Combustion, and it also included John Thompson boilermakers of Dudley(?) and another boilermakers from the North East whose name escapes me for now. They specialised in making huge power station boliers when we burned coal and oil to gernerate electricity.

I reckon a few of the Northern drivers would have seen this ERF about as it had a long working life.Nelstrop’s always liked to get their money’s worth out of a tanker, the AEC Mammoth Major was 18 years old when I photographed it at Walsall in July 1990.
Nice pic Graham, thanks for posting. I suppose they run there trucks for so long is because the article
said it was on local work.

Nelstrop’s always liked to get their money’s worth out of a tanker, the AEC Mammoth Major was 18 years old when I photographed it at Walsall in July 1990William Nelstrop & Co. Ltd of Albion Mills Stockport ran this
Leyland AEC Mammoth Major 8 tanker Reg No OVO 464L which was registered new in August 1972.
Seen here in 1992 while parked in the depot at Stockport Nelstrop’s ran this vehicle for an astonishing 22 years
until it was withdrawn in March 1994.
It was originally painted in Nelstrops blue livery as can be seen in this picture below…
Thanks for the pic Paul ! I actually prefer the blue colour scheme !
[/quote]
Yes Dean, not large annual mileages but factor in all the blowing hours it would have done in its lifetime. It would take on average about an hour to discharge the tank running the engine at 800 to 900 rpm. I also prefer the blue livery. Years ago Nelstrops ran its own in-house transport division under the name of King Brothers. Now all its transport is contracted out. I’d one of my tankers in Nelstrops mill on Friday collecting a load on behalf of another miller.

Thanks Graham.Would the North East boilermaker be Whessoe at Darlington? Another place I delivered steel plate to from Patent Shaft Wednesbury.
No Chris, it was Clarke Chapman, and Reyrolle Parsons was also part of the group. Northern Engineering Industries (NEI) was taken over by Rolls Royce in 1989.
