That wagon and drag Volvo looks like an ex Stobarts motor.

They didn’t buy second hand as I recall so no it wouldn’t have been an ex anybody’s truck. However, Taylor’s were the scania service agent in Worcester so most of the fleet was scania. From memory all the drags used for taking beer cans to Belgium or was it Holland (?) can’t remember which, were scania for, again I can’t remember, nacanco or carnaud metalbox.
I once drove one on a Saturday to load it for the regular driver to take over the water on the following Monday. The one and only time I ever drove a drag and couldn’t reverse it on an awkward bay for the life of me! God help me next year when my artics replaced with a drag [emoji17]

Santa Fe, i understand they have now bought Ralph Davies out.End of an era or what ■■? :unamused:
I thought Santa Fe went bust or something then started back up as atchinson Topeka? (Spelling?)

Just checked when the lovely looking Davies 141 was last taxed, end of July 1984! Wonder what happened for it to only last 4 years.

From memory i think that one might have been written off ! He had a 142 on a A reg 1984. :unamused:

Chris Webb:
Wincanton bought Santa Fe Express out in either 1994 or 1995.We had some of their well worn Mercs at Maltby.

Thanks for the info Chris !

Gateway also took over Fine Fare Supermarkets
They ran a large fleet of Orange ERFs and Leyland Buffalos
There’s a day cabbed ERF “C” series which has been restored in Fine Fare colours going round the vintage scene.
This is the ERF mentioned, I took this at Gaydon not long after the restoration. I showed this to my younger Brother he drove for Fine Fare then Gateway from the Hucknall depot, Buffalo’s, ERF’s and Scania’s in Gateway colours. He said he knew the unit and the driver as they came from the same depot (I believe it was the driver who owned and restored it). Fine Fare also had a depot in Washington in the Northeast, my father worked there in the warehouse and a couple of mates drove for them, it was a decent job too at the time, shame when it went belly up. Franky.
Hiya Franky did you know a driver from Hucknall named John Staton ?

I remember John from his Fine Fare days Gary! I’m friends with him on Facebook.
Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for all of your comments Tony !

I do recall my Brother mentioning a Jonny Staton, see if he knows Keith Dobson Tony. He done a bit OD with a four wheeler DAF after Gateway mainly running Aluminium Sections until he’d had enough then became a Paramedic which he’s still doing. Cheers Franky.

Neil Hobson Volvo F88. Looks like that motor has done some Middle East work with the air con unit
and it looks like Arabic writing on the bumper.

That’s one of Lock’s Transport from Headcorn Kent.I vaguely recall seeing that Atki somewhere, plus a Sam Anderson Scania just in shot.

Yes the blue Atki had been run by Lock’s for a number of years. Later it was purchased by Alan Butcher of Invicta Transport of Hart Street Maidstone still in Lock’s colours. I drove it for about 3 months doing Belgium and Holland pulling for Wim Voss. That Aki was the worst and ugliest lorry I ever drove. I can’t remember how many times it broke down. I was once towed of a ferry in Folkestone (just the unit) with the brakes jammed on. Boy was I glad to see the back of that one.

Monday morning first day on for Edgar. Standing at garage doors watching S39s/S80s going out the yard, Edgar strolls up to you " That’s yours, go steady with her she’s getting on a bit "

From a post on here somewhere. She worked up to 92 unbelievable. What would her vital statistics have been?

From a post on here somewhere. She worked up to 92 unbelievable. What would her vital statistics have been?

It started life as a Foden tanker in the 1940’s and had the wheelbase shortened by Edgar Waine when he converted it to a tipper in the 1950’s.
It undertook several modifications over the years and he operated it until about 1992 by which time he was 70 years old.
After retiring he took it to many shows and enjoyed the interest shown by many enthusiasts.
It was later sold to SE Davis on the understanding that it would be restored which, alas, it has not been.

BRS Atkinson wrecker.

One of the 12 Gardner-engined Atkinson Venturers supplied new to Pickfords in 1971, JLD701-12K. Several went onto the fairgrounds and 707 has been immaculately restored into PIckfords livery. I don’t know for certain which one this is in Mark’s photo, but I’ve a feeling that 710, new to Westfield Transport and now under restoration, spent time as a BRS wrecker.

And here’s a link to 710, with text saying about it being a BRS wrecker:

I really don’t know, Paul - maybe it was damaged and he chose to rebuild it with less glass - he put a sleeper on it too.

Hi dean the axzo marathon got class 3 flammable,5.1 oxidising agent, and class8 corrosive stickers on front what a dangerous mixture if carried together cheers John

What a photo, if you didn’t know better you’d go for a 50s scene.
In 75 I was driving a Mickey Mouse same as above but with coal body. Bay 679(?) ,she were 15yr old then n I thought she was getting on, a youngster compared to Edgars. Would she have been one of the longest working lorries? How many engines? How many miles?
