Well spotted Paul, you are good at finding them !!

Well Robert n Moomooland I’ve read both your posts (more than once, I’m not prepared to give an exact figure) n seem to see where you’re coming from. ERF were as bad as Foden seems you had to be on the ball to order n get what you wanted.
Any way this particular motor doesn’t make sense to me.R reg you would imagine it wouldn’t have come off the production line? I would have thought B series by then. If old stock still a mystery has to an 8whlr with that cab. Stretched tractor, why would you? Buy a trailer. I’ve never seen an 8whlr with that cab, are there others? N if this is off the production line is it an A series 8whlr, something I’ve been told doesn’t exist?
N who in their right mind would spend 1/2hr levelling load of coal?
ERF experimented with an 8-wheeler A-series but didn’t make any. I think what people forget is that during, and well into, the mid-'70s and even beyond, ERF were making several different models all at the same time (overlapping each other’s production runs). The A-series tractor units, older-design LV-cabbed rigids and units, B-series, all the metal-cabbed models (like the NGCs, MGCs, MDCs etc) were all rolling off the production line. Robert

Reed AEC Mercury think the Reg No should be SKO 511H.
Publicity companies had a habit of airbrushing number plates on adverts in those days, so the picture would not become dated to quick.

I was just going to post some more ERF pics as well Dean, but you beat me to it! Regarding levelling the load, I presume the driver (a Derbyshire based one so used to doing the job right!) wanted to make sure that nothing could blow off the same as we had to do with stone before the sheet could be dragged across
Pete.
Never ever seen anyone level it like that though Pete!!

Bludy ell you couldn’t move for them. Must have been going round with me eyes shut.
So LV chassis with A series cab, using stock up? R reg probably stood for a while in the corner.
Couple of P-reg ERFs, so could have been new in '76, just before the R-reg came out. Robert
Medication Dean? 4 pints of Pedi to be taken before meals, can’t get a prescription for it mind

I used to always level tippers and bulkers. It took just a few minutes or less by dragging the tipped edge of the same shovel bucket used to load it,across the top.

We used to service and repair Marrs fleet of BMC FG’s based at Hook, Hants, when I worked in Reading back in the early 70’s. Garage reeked of fish for days! Changed a spring on a Foden S36 of theirs as well once.
Pete.
Some crackers have appeared just recently Deano pal. More power to your elbow sonny!
The pic of Dave Hulme’s ERF was a long way from home as he usually carted aggregates from Peakstone quarry at Dove Holes to Pioneer concrete at Chadderton and other depots. The one I meant is reproduced along with another of Hulmes tipping at Chadderton back in the day.
I also loved seeing Ian Bolshaw’s Octopus the other week. Never knew he ran one! Here’s a B series he ran well into the 80s.
