I can’t remember his name, but he was an owner driver from just south of Hereford - he used to park the wagon in a lay by at the ‘Web Tree’, between Hereford and Allensmore.

0While on the subject of MFI (remember them) John Marsh & Son of Blackpool (BVT) used to have a regular contract hauling their trailers.
On 19 December 2008 all 111 MFI stores were closed after they went into liquidation.GAO 348K was replicated by Corgi, in day cab form, and carrying the livery of one E. Stobart - perhaps it actually was new to him? I believe he actually did have a Borderer with an 8LXB
Could be as AO reg was a Carlisle/■■■■■■■ reg.

The Scammell Routeman was a popular lorry back in the day.
Here’s a few more production line shots…
Now there is a blast from the past Mitchell Cotts Transport Services!
In 1983 they were the second largest contract hire fleet operator in Britain with 1,700 vehicles, only BRS were bigger at the time.
In 1988 Mitchell Cotts Transport were bought out by Transfleet for £16.5 million by which time Cotts fleet had increased to just over 2,000 vehicles.

You learn something everyday on here ! I never even heard of Mitchell Cotts Transport and never knew they
were the second largest contract hire fleet.

My A E Evans Marathon PCL 553R is doing well on here, that’s the third photo of it that Paul took. It’s not me driving though,I left before the multi-compartment label holders were put on. It’s loaded with 3WE1114 which is benzene and if it’s heading south the load will more than likely be crude benzene from BSC Shotton for Bitmac Llanwern or pure benzene from Staveley Chemicals to Monsanto Newport or BP Baglan Bay.Fame at last again.
On closer inspection it’s a different trailer from the one I had,I wonder if it’s Roger Brown driving,he took it over when I left.

0Another one of Webster’s Scammell Routeman’s was Reg No VCH 960Y which was for some reason was registered as new in August 1982, yet im pretty certain production of the Scammell Routeman had finished by this time.
Found this picture on another thread here on Trucknet which looks very much to me like it was taken by renown lorry photographer Peter J Davies at the Toddington Service area on the M1 in Bedfordshire.
A nice colour scheme on that company Paul !

That could be wirksworth Rod in the cab , I thought Charlie Webster had that lorry hanging around waiting to use it , they built houses on Webster yard now .
You seem to like the Scammell Routeman Paul so you may find this intresting.

PH Antell & Sons local heavy haulier who has now retired.Used to move alot of trains/locos.
“240 Gardner” will no doubt know about this truck !
Yes indeed! NIce to see a pic of it in its original form, as a 38T ‘Leader’ 6x2 chassis.
Antell’s carried out some major surgery on it, stretching it into a 6x4 unit and adding a decent-sized sleeper. Happily, after a further life in showland, it’s been restored:

I believe he actually did have a Borderer with an 8LXBGAO 348K was later written of Chris when it left the road and went over the edge on the A702 Biggar Road, Edinburgh.
It was fully loaded with Burtons biscuits, fortunately the driver walked away with just bruises.

Thanks Paul, I remember that photo! Did well to walk away, didn’t he?
I’ve a feeling that Stobart’s display Borderer is meant to replicate this one
.
Read the Blue Circle article Dean and found it interesting but can you believe it that after all that money spent on restoration and various companies donating to the cost, it is no more!!
