PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Bewick:
Would it be Frederick Allen , Chris ? Cheers Dennis.

That’s the one Dennis.thanks.

I, like others have said , think this display of previously unseen " action " shots has been great !! I can’t believe it’s going to get even better.
The photos in the taster for the new batch are bloody great and I can’t wait to see the rest.
Many, many thanks for these postings.
Regards. John.

Mark R:
I reckon VB Davies must have had one of the smartest fleets on the road back then. But my favorite today is probably JT Hunts Atki, quality pic.

Thought for the day- Hindsight + nostalgia = a bloke who likes Atkis and Seddons.

Chris Webb:

DEANB:
Have about a week’s supply left of the second batch of pics. But here is a preview of the third batch of
pics that Paul took. Overall they are clearer and closer as he had bought a new lens !

I think you will like these !

Taylor’s tidy F88 tanker.

Scammell PJ Horne.jpg

Paul, would this be one of Riding’s old ones sold to killingbeck ■■? I think the reg is YXG439K.

Valence smart Foden outfit.

J T Hunt Atkinson.

V.B.Davies smart Crusader.

Reed Scania,being overtaken by a Volvo !

I reckon “pete 359” will like this one,Joint Motorways Marathon.

Robert will like this one of Phelps and Davis ERF

Wood and Rutler Borderer overtaking a Guy. Anyone recognise the Guy,possibly Gunness haulage ■■?

Robbins smart Crusader from Swansea.

Hi Dean.No the Guy is not one of Gunness Haulage,it’s a firm from Bedworth Warwickshire - and I’ve forgotten the name. :frowning: :frowning:

I wasnt sure Chris thats why i put the ? but its similar colours to Gunness and was the only one i could
think of,but thanks for confirming !

Hi DEANB,
Just when i thought it couldnt possibly get any better, then you go and post this.My old mate Ron REES,in his fairly new? marathon XWN 671T…

I thought you would like that one Andrew ! Its nice that it was a mate driving it !

moomooland:
The Atki is one of Wood & Butlers from Darwen near Blackburn.

Thanks for confirming the Atki Paul, nice pics as always !

Casual Observer:

That Renault 12 on opposite carriageway looks a to be a bit light on the steering :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Lot of weight in the back like you say “Casual Observer”

The Atki is one of Wood & Butlers from Darwen near Blackburn.

Certainly is, Wood & Butler were in Branch Road, Lower Darwen. It’s a Mk.2 ‘Silver Knight’, by the way, Dean

Look at the sleeper “extension” on it too - about half the size of a Jennings pod, and they weren’t up to much to start with! Wood & Butler had one or two like that.

Incidentally, RCB 77K in Paul’s photo, was new to W. H. Bowker, and worked for Wood & Butler for many years after leaving Bowker. No mudguard on the drive axle, I see!

Cheers Chris, for your comments, that sleeper was a bit snug ! :unamused:

Paul will know best, but I don’t think it is. This one was, though, to pick up another of today’s threads: and ex-Riding motor with Wood & Butler:

Follow the link for more info

Great pic thanks for posting it Chris !

jshepguis:
Dean if it is YXG then XG was a Middlesbrough prefix number.

Hi Chris,
The Killingbeck and the Wood and Butler Atki’s above were never Riding motors.

Ah, I was misled by the registration, sorry! I think you may have told that before…

Yes it was a very smart fleet “Mark R” Little bit surprised at you picking the Atki today although
its a great pic. I know how you like the look of a bit of a tired dirty working truck and i thought the
Scammell of P.J.Horne would have been your choice !

DEANB:
Thanks for the comments “robroy” you have come over to the dark side then ? I thought you only ventured on “The UK professional drivers forum”

Did you have any ■■■■■■■■ companies in mind ? I did pop a small article on a few pages back about
■■■■■■■■ hauliers.

 Nah I often come on here, you know you’re among ‘‘Proper Drivers’’ (maybe I’ll be one myself one day. )
The type of guys who used to help me a lot when I started.

For starters have you any trucks from Silloth, there were a lot of owner drivers and small firms from around there in early 80s, Whitfields, Frasers, P.A. Morgan, Cheri Foam, to name a few.
Or what about Duncan Hills from Maryport, they had stuff from TKs to ERFs and later on Scania 81s, John Walton small Fiats ERF and later Mercs.
West ■■■■■■■■■■ By products.Maryport… khaki and later orange tankers,.Atkis and ERFs orange Sed Atk 400s.
Thanks anyway.

“robroy” A couple of Millicans for you from ■■■■■■■ !

At last, my old firm A J Gregory but not my lorry sadly, I live in hope it will pop up sometime.

It’s possible that ERF is the one I did a trip to London in (didn’t rate it at all, Mandator heaps better IMO), the plain box trailer I pulled
for miles with the F88 290 I had new in Jan 75.

The Daf came new before my 88 and was given to a great lad called Hughie his previous lorry was The Big Pig, Atki Borderer 220 ■■■■■■■
and 10 speed fuller, Hughie had the Daf several months before demanding The Big Pig back complaining the Daf was a poofters lorry lol.

Also Dean on p76 pic of Carrington Viyella ERF is that Pattons AEC and bulk trailer going the other way. Cheers Norman.

Saved for preservation after it’s life doing the rounds on the fairground circuit it was later transformed from a six wheeler into an eight wheeler and is now seen at various rallies in the livery of Doveys Haulage (Totton) Ltd.
