That’s the last of the pictures, all thanks to an interesting article in Vintage Trucks & Commercials Magazine.
Thanks PR.
Arononline don’t always get it correct Parkroyal. The comment about turbocharging and were able to match almost any other manufacturer wasn’t really true when the highest powered turbo engine in the group came from Southall @ 273bhp and Leyland had been using turbos since the 60s and couldn’t match Daf with the 11.6 litre engine. The first Roadrunners had Leyland engines i think from the Terrier but soon switched to Cummins. The Roarunner was i think the lightest 7.5 tonner on the market
I daresay, though most articles I’ve read seem pretty good. Maybe message them and suggest they might want to correct a few errors.
Didn’t expect that. Pneumocyclic?
A wee link you might’ve already seen (posted on HCVC Australia by @240Gardner no less): https://www.hcvc.com.au/forum/truck_Chat/1076-atkinson-fan?start=100
Have a look at the Leyland Marathon feature that was published quite a few years ago. The writer mentions ■■■■ Rivers taking a Marathon2 to the Middle East with the documentary Destination Doha which infact happened just after the launch of the original Marathon. Also a tale about his freinds dad on his way to the Middle East with steel and one of the pistons developed a hole so he dropped the sump took out the piston and got it back on 5 cylinders. Now i’m not mechanically minded but even i know that sounds a bit too far fetched
Wot a good tarp job. SDU.
In its day too, I would have loved to have that Foden.
