Don’t you mean the Solex David? Little two stroke engine fitted on the front wheel, you could “engage” the engine by pulling a handle and lower it down onto the spinning wheel. When I was a nipper, I’ve rebuilt the engine on a Solex my grandad owned years ago, was a fun little project to get my hands on, it was eventually sold to a neighbouring Englishman I believe… wouldn’t be you, would it?
That’s the one Patrick, I had forgotten the bit about it being lowered onto the wheel though, and no, it wasn’t me but if i had been there it would have been. It wouldn’t have the problem of front wheel traction that I have with the weight of the little engine over it.
@Oily, what is occurring here? Pictures of lorries? Who would have thought it?
I really do like that lineup of Howard’s though.
Here you go perterm a memory jerker for you, Buzzer.

Found this fascinating a German invention from the 1930s a motorcycle with engine within the front wheel, it took 3 years to develop this model but obviously it never took off, BuzzerThis reminds me of the CYCLE MASTER ,a 2 stroke engine fitted into the rear wheel just after WW 2 . toshboy
They were very common in France so I believe and still available to this day I think, though I don’t remember having seen one.
It’s all about electric these days though. Before I read up on the one I bought I thought the electric ones could be charged as you go along by pedalling without the motor. Not so as I have to plug it into the mains every few days or so, depending on the distance covered of course.

Did a little research about the Solex, never realised it was from the same firm that made the Solex carburetors

A bit o’ memory lane re-cycling Spardo . I remember buying my eldest daughter a Puch when she first started work and with no end of recovery from various breakdowns, a right heap of crap, a lesson in caveat emptor

That’s a bit flash, must be a de-luxe, I had a Mobylette briefly, wasn’t as smart as that, looked like an overgrown pushbike in beige.

When I was a kid my next door neighbour had a Raleigh moped. It looked quite smart in a cream paint and dark green coachlines. I cannot recall what model name it had though.I’m sure they were called a Raleigh Wisp
I think they did a few models, my late brother had one to go to work on, it was a Raleigh Runabout.

An old F88 from Hull today, Buzzer
Thanks Buzzer. I don’t remember that little ■■■■■ thing on the saddle though. It was cheap transport for a while. My dad caught me with a mate on the rack but I thought he was more amused than annoyed. Didn’t get much of a rollicking anyway.
Albion1938, are you sure it wasn’t an NSU that you had? I remember them being grey.
Thanks to Buzzer for the pics .
