What was the thinking behind the reverse rake on the windscreens Deano, not the best aerodynamics I would have thought?
BTW Chris, who are all these wannabeelorrydriver kids running about round our ankles?
Aye David, bloody ankle snappers,I’ve done more miles in reverse and on cafe lorry parks etc etc.
Ha ha, and then some, but I reckon Pete has got a point about the passenger seats, done a few dodgies myself in my time. It is amazing to me now how far I was prepared to travel to get home sometimes, and then all the way back in the morning.
Thanks Pete for the info re the screens, I suppose the rake took the overhead glare off it, in the same way that an exterior visor, like the one I had on my Invincible, had.
I remember using those Larry, I bet I still have a key somewhere. Is that one still at Newby Bridge I wonder? Didn’t the same key also fit the RAC boxes as well? There used to be a RAC box in the little layby just before the trees on the road between Longcliffe and Fenny Bentley.

Pete.
As far I know its still at the Motor Museum, Its a few years since I last visited the place, Very interesting place., Regards Larry.
Got my first motor bike, a 250 Beezer, and joined the AA the same day. Rode all over the place and nearly came off just making sure I didn’t miss my first salute. Finally got one, and before the 2nd one came about, they put a stop to them. Unsafe practice.

A long gone mate of mine once got stuck in London, Saturday morning, “we close at 12:00 driver, come back Monday morning”, So he left the motor and the load in their yard and thumbed it back to Batley…and then, up with the sparrows on Monday morning and thumbed it down to London. Claimed for 2 nights out.

GMC Futurliner built 1939, means to an end would be an apt question. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Futurliner
Some Futurliner photos as it leaves Gilmore Car Museum, Hickory Corners, Michigan. thanks to Joe Ross
Oily
Youre dead right windrush, Ryton Gravel had a couple of Leyland Octopus but Fodens appeared in the early 70s when 30 ton gross was allowed, S39 with K & L reg then S80 from M through N to P reg. Then
2 F86 Volvo 8 wheelers, R & S reg then back to Foden for S83, S & two T reg the last coming in Jan 1979.
March 79 brought 2 F7 8 wheelers & it was all Volvo after that. I got the last Foden brand new!
A man`s wagon. Just a bit of useless info to fill in the gaps. pushrod47.

Far ahead of it’s time Oily, as I would have thought that was built in the 50’s…
I’m not sure but that first pic looks like the type of Dodge my old dad drove for Pettifors, a south London firm. It had been converted to a prime mover/tractor/unit and had a long wheel base that he always moaned about. I remember the rattly old Perkins and a Ki Gas pump on the dashboard.
