Just found on a French forum, what looks like a Spanish-made Dennis. Who will tell something about it?

Hereâs a photo of a Matlock Transport LAD Dodge.
Iâm not sure which of the Lowe sons that is Chris? It could be George, I believe that Charlie Lowe (now no longer with us) had horns on the cab roof of his and twin fuel tanks, Mike (the Longdrag) will know. George offered me a job once when I drove for Tilcon: I could spend a week away in a Clydesdale with a sleeper cab and as long as I came back on friday with some sort of a load on he would be happy! Then I mentioned wages, âThe more I pay you means more work for my office girl so she would want more money as well, I find that money destroys many a worker/boss relationshipâ. I stayed with Tilcon at Ballidon quarry, but after I was made redundant I did do some work for George on his horse/camping field renovating the toilets for him.
Oily: Matlock and Matlock Bath are less than two miles apart so even I could walk that distance, and have done many times when I lived there!
Pete.

Same company Chris, the founder Mr Lowe in front. There are many pics posted by a member of the family on facebook, but they are not mine to copy and post here.

Thanks Pete. My pal was called Freddy Morton, went to school at Curbar with him,he lived up Northwood Lane. He trained to be a steam loco fitter at 17D Rowsley shed and when it closed he worked in transport office at Laportes Cavendish Mill. He sent me theseâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ
I occasionally carted spar from Tearsall quarry up to Glebe for Slinter Mining when our usual work was slack Chris. Sometimes I back loaded tailings from there to Derby etc. The drag up âScratterâ to Monsal Head with a full jag on (and possibly more as there was no weighbridge at Tearsall!) made the old Foden grunt a bit!

Youâve got me there Pete, where was âScratterâ? Was it that road out of Ashford up to Monsal Head maybe? Orwas there a weight limit on it - a bit posh Ashford, they wouldna like wagons int village.
Itâs a long time since I heard the word âjagâ for a load,a common expression in Peak District.
Yes Chris, itâs the steepish and narrow part out of Ashford to Monsal Head. Still no weight limit on it, (the road through Ashford village centre back to the A6 has one though) but there wont be the volume of heavy traffic nowadays that there was a few years ago.
Pete.

There are no good ways to Sheffield anyway Dave! From Ballidon it was all collar, gears and brakes and very little top gear work. It took almost half an hour to reach Bakewell. We had a driver from Croft quarry near Leicester at Ballidon one day and he couldnât believe that it took us almost 90 minutes to do a 30 mile journey, in that time he said he could be near London!

When I were a kid and lived in Froggatt 40s and 50s,Froggatt Edge hosted what seemed like a continuous stream of tippers,Derbyshire Stone,Hughes Brothers,Ben Bennett,
Hinchcliffes and others I forget now. I spent a lot of my time at Grouse Inn above Froggatt Edge when it were a farm as well as a pub and would wait for a Sheffield bound tipper with me bike at top of Moorlands Lane and hang ont back for a free ride, choking to death on fumes.

You wouldnât be blown in the slipstream , second gear on the best bits , you would have been quicker pedalling . Early 80s it was first trip to Aldwarke every day , up Froggat , straight though the middle of Sheffield and down Attercliffe . It was a lot quicker than dragging round the Parkway . I wouldnât like to try that now , if it were allowed . Canât even nip down Holmfield , itâs weight limited since the second home mob moved in and objected to the nasty lorries . When I was delivering bricks there I always dropped them in the most awkward place I could find just to get my own back .
Thanks to Buzzer, Chris Webb, Froggy55 for the pics

only been to monsal head in the car and thatâs a pain, but worth it once you get to the stables for a few pintsâŚ

Barlow and Hodge! The spare cans of diesel must be either on the catwalk or hiding in the cab! Ken Hodgkinson owned and drove a red Ford D Series four wheeler in our quarry when I started there, he tended to do the London trips (Canning Town I think?) with it.
