Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

Ray Smyth:
A lorry of Hartleys Jams & Preserves from Aintree loading oranges at Liverpool docks in the 1930s’
I think that the oranges have arrived from Spain, soon to be made into Marmalade, and the lorry may
be a Leyland. Picture from Bootle History Forum.

Aaaargh, Liverpool docks again. It’s a typical scene, 2 men on the barrows and the rest of the gang (there are a lot of em) stood about, hands in pockets, ‘supervising’. :imp:

Beat me to it  …around 26 men in that pic, 4 look as though they may be about to do something…and 2 of those are on the truck…definitely not dockers!

The remains of a little Scania 80/85.
Not sure whether this is a tractor or rigid…
Scanias little cab was a pain, could never seem to get a comfortable
driving position,The livery is familiar, but i cannot place it…

Hi Larry a nostalgic photo of the old Blyth High Ferry with France Fenwick and Stevenson Clark colliers moored at the jetty adjacent to Bates Pit coal loading chutes. I crossed on the ferry a good number of times riding in a Morris Commercial LC wagon riding shotgun as a boy from about 1949- 52. It may look a bit Heath Robinson but it carried on for many years. Hughes Bolkow shipbreaking yard across the river at North Blyth where many famous ships were broken up.
Cheers,Leyland 600.

Gerald, do you remember the ship’s figurehead outside Hughes Bolklow? A very voluptuous lady as I recall.  it was there when I started driving lorries in 1969. Regards Kev.

Thanks to Buzzer, rastone, Ray Smyth, Lawrence Dunbar and pyewacket947v for the pics      .
