123,000 out of a set of tyres, going some!
Did the odd backload of local sand to the quarries but not so often
Did have a spell backloading sand out of Leighton buzzard with 8whlr ERF, empty could get stuck anytime anywhere in the pit. Difflock, low revs, high revs or anything in between waste of time. Bit of a nudge by the loading shovel n away you went. Only our Erfs suffered,Fodens n Akkys no problems, summat to do with the suspension set up

I’ve had plenty of lifts with BIS drivers. When in RAF in Norfolk they would stop for me in King’s Lynn at night when delivering to Yorkshire glassworks, they ran out of a sand pit at Middleton just east of Lynn on A47 and ran LAD Octopussies early 60s in that black livery. In later years the Congleton drivers would take you over Woodhead into Sheffield from just outside Stockport lorry park when on a dodgy, the wagons were double shifted.Wm.Cooks foundry in Sheffield would have two 8-legger loads a day,one in afternoon and one at night.Their ERFs all had ■■■■■■■ engines.
