Just found on a French forum this Scammell in an awful soapy blue livery.
Same firm, truer colour.

Other day, other picture found on the same French Forum. Would any of you have more to say about this truck? It reminds me some French TV broadcasting trucks of the 1960s.

The Standard Atlas was an ‘exciting’ van to drive! They only had a 948 cc engine so were painfully slow, the gearlever emerged from somewhere behind the driver so was rather hit and miss. They also had a transverse leaf spring at the front so rolled around a little, if the spring main leaf broke it often punctured the engines sump! Otherwise not a bad vehicle…Most of the Scarab Four models were exported so quite rare in the UK.
That reminds me of the time a Standard Atlas came into the Birmingham City Transport garage at Selly Oak.
It was brand new and the first one we had seen, it was delivering something to the stores and a crowd of us gathered round the thing.
Our regular stores van driver, Marge, who drove our Austin/Morris LD, asked the driver if she could sit in the drivers seat. He said yes, Marge climbed in and gave the interior the once over.
Now to the oddly placed gear lever, Marge depressed the clutch and tried to engage a gear, and promptly broke a bra strap.
Cue a outburst of laughter and a few ribald comments.
Exit Marge with a red face.
A G4S (Group Four) Mitsubishi in Market Place, Wigan, 15/10/2019.
The driver appeared to come out of Greggs with a small cash safe
on a trolley. He probably got a free pastie.
