J type Bedford and DA Toyotas loading bagged sugar at the Apapa wharf in Lagos, Nigeria. These 6 tonners were loaded with around 18 tonnes judging by how many bags they put on board. The trucks all struggled to get going with much revving and billowing of smoke. I remember the old Bedfords were on “tippy toes” at the front end with the front wheels touching the ground every few feet as they got going and “see sawed” down the wharf. Turning the corner at the end of the wharf was interesting as they kinda bounced their way round bit by bit. The tyres were so worn from overloading they looked rounded and smooth like aircraft tyres…but they still kept going and coming back for more! The Bedfords were all the chassis export models with the locals building a wooden cab to their own likes and design. They often added homely touches like wallpaper on the back of the cabs. Interesting days.

Looks like a central routier somewere !0
Only long-distance articulated trucks. It looks like a custom area to me and, according to the truck models, could be around 1985-90, probably in France or eventually Belgium.
I wouldn’t board on that “ferry”! It looks like a local tourist coach…

Rotel are a German company who used to go from West Germany to South Africa in the mid 70’s via The Sahara Desert. If you do a search then I am sure that something will turn up.
This is going back a bit, the Hendaye/Irun border between France & Spain very interesting seeing all the cars of the era, Buzzer.

Nonsense…you’ve no sense of adventure. …

, I remember way back in 1984 seeing a Rotel tour bus at Bught Park campsite in Inverness and thinking it looked like a tenement block on the move.

I can’t begin to think of the problems of wanting a pee in the middle of the night.
I saw this little beauty today while doing some repairs on a fishing boat (cockling boat to be exact). It actually had a pair of these Gardners, this one drives the hydraulic pump.
Apparently both engines are rebuilt periodically to keep them in tip top condition for a life at sea, and getting spares is not a problem. Obviously I had to get the owner to fire them for me - just for old time sake. Sounded just like me Dad’s old Atki!

I saw one of these outfits parked up on the big layby opposite side of the Lion Bank at Alnwick many years ago a Mercedes 0303 coach towing a trailer which appeared to unfold and looked like a large battery hen unit each compartment like a nest box which the passengers had to sleep in all of them well built folk.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Have seen this before somewhere but is relevant even though there are no wheels Oily, cheers Buzzer.
Blimey, Buzzer, I didn’t think anyone could make me feel even older but you’ve succeeded admirably in thirty seconds flat!
