Hi Froggy, I can remember that twin steer Commer owned and operated by J.H. Henderson Ltd of Alston, the highest market town in England where they breed them tough to be able to withstand the harsh winters up there with very difficult road conditions at times. It certainly is a hard road to drive with a well loaded lorry I used to haul cememt from Weardale via Alston back various locations in ■■■■■■■■

Hi Leyland600, The steep cobbled main street of Alston a real test of driver skill with a loaded wagon in wet or wintry conditions.

Hi “Leyland600” Im sure you will remember Nenthead Transport, I remember one of their drivers called Nelson He used to get return loads from Blyth Harbour He was good crack, He bought a used pair of very large doors when the timber sheds were getting demolished at Blyth I also bought a pair for our garage, He reckoned their garage didnt have any & was a very cold place, I wonder if he is still about, Regards Larry.
Thanks for the pics Gordon, that Saunders Atki and accommodation looks the bis

Speech House.
Having a problem with the form filling ROF like, do I have a butty in the Forest
, well I am partial to a bacon one now and again, but I don’t want to upset them being as the local mooters are protected, having been there before is slightly in my favour it would seem, again the fancy dress requirement might be a problem

I can supply a varied selection of “Fancy dress”, however probably not in your size! I reckon you’ll be OK as there are the requisite three locals willing to sign you in.
Sat in Taunton Dean services, here’s one for you Ray, and as for ROF who said we let you back in lol

Hi Malc, thanks for the pics , saw that machine on the way home from the Hebrides, unfortunately in a “convoy” of traffic so missed a chance of stopping for a snap, we were two or three motors behind a motorhome(NL) snail with a long tail back behind us, umpteen chances to pull in at a passing place to let others go by between Achmore and Strathcarron station
waited until the A896 jct then he pulled in, bah bloody humbug

One of Wally Thorburn’s from the past, Buzzer.
In days gone by lorry drivers were recognised and respected as Knights of the Road, well I guess this chap deserves to be included, well done that man.

Hi Servo, The Sanders Atkinson certainly is a nice motor it was originally an L744 model (7ton, 4 wheeler, 4 cylinder) and long wheelbase. Obviously originally registered in Renfrewshire it was owned for a while by John Kenny of Warwick Bridge near Carlisle who had a showmans living van fitted to the body and regularly rallied it. When he sold it it next appeared in its current guise, I was quite surprised to learn when I saw it at Kirkby Stephen Rall one year that it had just a Gardner 4LK or LW fitted when the 5LW was more usual in this model so I doubt it will be a little underpowered but very economical to run.
Cheers,
Leyland 600
Hi Dean B The Woodcock Atkinson RAO 507M was originally a six wheel platform operated by Edenhall Concrete Products, Edenhall, near Penrith and supplied by Scott’s of Nottingham Penrith branch. The wagon was eventually acquired by John Killingbeck renowned for converting Atkinson rigids to tractor units and fitting his own design sleeper cabs this being a good example.
Cheers, Leyland 600
