Hi Oily and Windrush, Yes you are right it was new as a Crossley bodied double decker in 1950 for Reading Corporation with enclosed platform rear doors. Fleet No 88. Looks like it has a Holmalloy cab these days.
While on the subject of buses conveted to lorries this ex Nottingham Corporation Park Royal decker was stripped of its body and converted to a tarboiler etc by the Trinidad Limmer Asphalt Co and now lives at Racks near Dumfies. I foolowed it along the A66 last Saturday morning heading for the Brough - Kirkby Stephen Rally with motorhome on the back. I know the lad that has it.` here are some photos taken last Saturday.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

That show in Brough must have been a great event! With the kind of trucks I love! A special mention for the Mammoth MK I; I guess it’s pre-WW II and fitted with a 92 bhp engine?

Yes its a 1938/9 Reg from Dorset,Regards Larry.
Yes Froggy it is a great two day event with exhibits located at Brough, Kirby Stephen Main St and the old auction site all of which can be easily accessed by taking one of the many vintage buses attending providing a continous service from Brough up to Kirkby Stephen West railway station on the Settle - Carlisle line. Riding on a vintage bus as I did a 1949 Guy Arab with Crossley body and powered by a 6LW Gardner with a full standing load and a very competent driver who made the bus travel sedately but steadily up Brough Sowerby bank and the very steep climb 2nd gear up to the station selecting the gears without even the slightest click at the right moment. The amazing thing was that the engine was so quite compared to a screaming jangling 2016 model Optare Solo of Stagecoach I had the misfortune to travel on to Carlisle a few months ago. Returning on a Northern Scottish AEC Reliance with an equally competent driver. I also had a fix on a Leyland Leopard in fine fettle especially after spending many years driving and operating Leopards and other classic Leyland models.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Lawrence it was new to Bath & Portland Stone Co in 1939 owned by Davis Hoare fom Chepstow. Here are some more lorries starting out on the evening road run.
Wonderful pictures!

Well, I must confess you British are much better tan us French in organising such shows. Moreover, we have very few pre-1960 buses and coaches, especially compared to you! In fact we’re just 40 years behind Britain and Germanic countries concerning preservation of vehicles. Even if one can think we could catch up, the main problem lies in the fact that most old commercial vehicles have unfortunately been scrapped!
Congratulations to all of you, British enthusiasts, for your work!
