I think a Wagon that looks like this introduces itselfHi Chris, back in May of 2014 and while doing a campervan p/e down in ■■■■■■■■ this couple approached and showed an interest in my trade in van when I was swopping our stuff from "old to “new” motor, this was 6 hours after wrangling with a bunch of rogues, so I was only too happy to put him wise to my dealings that day and the previous 6 months of untruths I had been fed, anyway the gent was John Miller ex company director of Chris Miller Heavy Haulage, it was good to hear about the wagons that the company had through the years, none more so than the Mack and the hauls it had been involved in, not exactly trouble free motor if I remember correctly, they sold out to Ainscough, also in Preston, anyway cheers for the pic
Eddie
HI Eddie, must have been nice to talk to a proper Boss who talked Lorries & knew how much it cost to run them, not many of them about nowadays

hi oily looking at that erf beauty devon/scotland on the front how easy we got it these days it looks stunning
I came across this invention in cyber space this afternoon (see below). I’ve never seen one before. Years ago, before air-ride units were common, and I was doing dock traction out of Dover with knackered old units and heavy foreign trailers, I used to dream of something like this. I even used to sit and design them on the back of my loading notes but didn’t come up with anything quite like the one below. Has anyone come across them? Robert

Robert , I have come across pneumatic landing legs in the very late 60s on a crane low loader trailer, but they were prone to air leaks and if you did not pack under the trailer and one leg had an air leak it tilted the trailer to a very precarious angle as I found out through personal experience and I was lucky as it was loaded with a 20 ton roll but I had left it chained and so avoided a very embarrassing situation the next morning. The picture shows the trailer in question and I think that was the only time I ever drover that outfit
cheers Johnnie

I remember seeing the pneumatic legs on display at a Commercial Motor Show in the early 1980s. The sales person claimed that the air leaks on earlier models had been cured by the addition of non return valves in each leg which closed when the air hoses were disconnected from the tractor unit.
Thanks to sammyopisite and servo88 for the pics
Slight change of tack and the Isle of Skye 1985, came upon this campervan in ditch, having been forced off road by oncoming coach which did not stop, just about to try a tow out with my own VW when round the corner comes this fully laden Leyland Scammell Constructor, pulls up driver jumps out, sorts a bit of rope out and “soon have you out 'o there” which duly happened. The guy in the middle with the Eric Morecambe specs was 50 then, fit as a butchers dog and twice as ugly
Oily
see the leyland was a puller afterall

Boots had half a dozen trailers in the 80s fitted with hydraulic powered landing legs
They were mainly used for internal work
I think it was an American company that made them
Most of the time they were coupled to Ford Transcontinentals which again were used as Shunters !!!
