Thanks Larry and the same to yourself and good lady wife. At this very minute I’m thinking of you and the other northeast lads whiling a away the afternoon re-driving the miles gone by while enjoying some choice refreshment. So here’s wishing you all many more miles in comfort and style.

Thanks to Gardner 120 for the Bedford TK pic … I was given a brand new one with a 5 car Carrimore trailer, I liked the cab vision, forward and back, a heater that actually blew warm air and the brakes were quite effective, the gear change if I remember was a wee bit less than positive (too many linkages) the real downside was it wasn’t man enough for the job ( for my liking), another driver (wagon and drag) who didn’t like nights away wanted a swop, done.
All lit up for Christmas in Dingwall

i haven’t seen one of those cranes since liverpool docks in the 60s . i think they were diesel/electric then, used for unloading cases with chain dogs , evil things , just right to take a finger off if you were too slow moving your hands . i just shook the few remaining brain cells up and i think the name on the side was ransomes , they made a lot of old machines . it,s possible that one has been reengined at some time .dave
Found this one previously posted where I mentioned it may be Cat powered
Oily
Well have had a bit of a look and Rapier cranes of this era did use Perkins diesel engines and an electric-powered jib, not sure if that would apply to this one.

Yes Ransome Rapier, this one of lurpak’s has Rapier on the jib. The regional Railway Companies(before BR) were big users with hook and also grab bucket.
This is an interesting short vid of an ancient Rapier “walking” dragline, ingenious or what for the time.

All the best Oily to you & all your family, regards Gordon, nice to see the shops running over the festive weekend.
Those old cranes remind me of the ones that were used on Newcastle Quayside in the 50/60s Era They were Herbert Morris models from Loughbrough, Petrol Engines driving a Electric Motor to work the crane, Please correct my me if Im wrong on this, My mems are fading at the age of 80, Regards Larry.
Hi Lawrence , I remember those cranes on Newcastle Quay but I cannot say for certain who made them but were similar to those Ransome Rapier ones on Liverpool docks, I always thought they were dangerous unweildly things for loading or perhaps it was the awkward zbs driving them both in Newcastle and Liverpool. I am surprised that Herbert Morris made them, their speciality was overhead cranes. I friend I worked with at Cowans Sheldons, Carlisle went on to work for Herbert Morris at Loughborough.
Cheers Leyland 600.
