Oily

Dutch Road/Rail

Both the tractor and semi-trailers are French, together with the railway waggon marked SNCF. In the far background last picture is a DAF truck. I have no idea about the make of this road-rail tractor, but will try to get some information.

That’s dodgy, that last picture of the Mack in the flood, even taken slowly you have no idea what debris lies hidden beneath the surface, as I found out to my cost in Matlock one day. I was doing fine in similar depth water when I came up against a large chunk of someone’s wall, and got no further.

Thanks for posting this one Buzzer, it certainly took me back a bit.

I recognised the old I.C.I. Blackley site, which is now long gone, along with The Crumpsall Hotel, mind you the place has changed a bit over the last sixty years.

Or not lurking under the water… When I worked in Nigeria the wet season had daily floods in many regions. In towns the flooded roads held the danger of missing manhole covers-they had all been nicked for scrap! So you could suddenly come to an abrupt stop when a wheel fell into the abyss.

The roads outside Nigerian towns had a lot to be desired in the seventies.
