Parkside Container Terminal

Probably those who don,t live in the area won,t know about the proposed re-openong in 2010 of the closed Parkside colliery at Newton-Le-Willows which was closed due to “Thatcher & the miners strike”.

A consortium have proposed to re-open the old colliery as a Freightliner Container Terminal with something like to start with 13 or 14 trains a day and without going in to a load of detail it will as proposed create something like in excess of over a thousand jobs in a job starved area.

But what we have is the local councillor for Burtonwood & Winwick Councillor TerryONeill vehemently opposing it as it will be “detrimental” to the local residents who incidentally lived there through the days of the coliiery and the 24 hour working regime.

This terminal will have it,s own dedicated raod link “Directly” off the M6 / M62 with no other access to it and all the land will be (according th the plans) landscaped in to a large bowl type landscaped area to hide all the workings and to enhance the area with trees etc. the hide all the workings.

I today have just received a letter from the MP for Warrington which states categorically that MP`s cannot be involved in any way with local planning decisions under threat of being reprimanded by parliament.

What I am getting at is this councillor Terry O Neill is opposing the plant to create 1000`s of jobs with this scheme as he is obviously not the one out of work when he is a paid (expenses) from the council as I am led to believe which is quite a substantial amount .

I was mistakenly always under the impression that the labour party was for the working man and was there to create employment but obviously not in this case.

Another strange response from the answer from th MP (Helen Jones) was that this would take jobs away from the Burtonwood Omega Site at the now defunct Burtonwood Air base adjacent to the M62 so can someonme tell me how the hell they would be able to build a rail terminal at the Omega site as the land has all been built on with the Gemini shopping centre and the old base has been built on with all new houses etc. are they planning to send the freight in via the M62 by building railway lines on the M62?

freightliner, ews and contbase will be moving there from trafford park as united want the land that freightliner and ews have and trafford centre is having the land of conbase when the lease runns out next year i think it is

Did this ‘local’ councillor live in the area when this was a 24 hour operation?
Here in West Dorset we had ‘local’ councillors complaining about a new Lidls, turns out they lived opposite the site (currently Travis Perkins) and not one of them was ‘local’ but incomers from everywhere else. This is quite common amongst ‘local’ councillors, most are elderly, on indexed linked pensions and dont give a toss about others (selfish [zb]'s) Good luck.

Tiger.

As far as I know “fastrantiger” he did live in the area long before the pit closed so I don,t see what his problem is other than self preservation as a councillor and all the perks and money that go with it remember those that are against it voted him in after all!

The only other option locally would be to move to the old Arpley sidings in the centre of Warrington but that would be a nightmare for drivers to get to as it is in the town centre even though it is next to the west coast main line at Bank Quay stn.

Obviously I as a long time labour voter (until that buffoon Tony Blair was elected) am very angry that this so called representative of the working man is so eager to see jobs in excess of a thousand or more go to another part of the country, so much for representing the working man and as a labour member & councillor he should hang his head in shame and do the honourable thing and “RESIGN”!
