There was a guy sacked from Currys for calling a Polish worker a ■■■■■■ a bit petty if you ask me but the companyt doesnt seem to like employing local people why I dont know but when the Pound weakens I hope to see DSG collapse and I can stand and laugh at them outside the gates.

Personally I dont find the name Jock offensive if anything I quite like it.

I dont think the English actually have a name like Taff,Jock Paddy etc which is probably down to heritage who knows?.

To call someone from Pakistan a [zb] seems offensive to them but then having a Christmas celebration is offensive to them,Celebrating Easter seems to be offensive to them and flying the Union flag seems to offend them too, maybe you shoukld just call them bud buds or is it but buts?.

Why didnt you block out Jock,Taffy or Paddy which are all derogatory names in the UK? OH I forgot were British its allower with us isnt it?.

For sure it’s incorectly spelt in Polish. And about english version: as I guess that people who are using that trying to offend Poles, so propably it’s offensive for them. So as for me it’s offensive not becouse it’s offensive itself, but becouse they are using that to offend…

As for the same way I can call you in Polish “Brytyjczyk” which means a British citizen, but I can call you “Brytol” which have much less nice meaning…

But I am sure that there is no point of banning polish word [zb] from this site as it makes no sense for me that you are banning non-offensive polish words while “■■■■■”, “■■■■”, “■■■■” “■■■■” “■■■■■” “■■■■■■■■■■ and “■■■■■■■■■” are still allowed :slight_smile:

Hi kenno78, That’s a great point mate, but I forsee a slight problem with the sheer number of different languages… :cry:

:bulb: It’s not something I’d given any thought to, but just think of how many different nationalities of folk we have on here. Now just imagine the time needed for researching, inputting and maintaining a database of all possible swear words in all foreign languages and dialects. :open_mouth:

Hi kenno78, I’ve had a look at that website and I have to say it’s no different to any other I’ve ever seen.

IMHO, far too many people give far too much credibility to ‘translation’ websites. (BTW, that’s not a pop at you :wink: ) I can only really comment about translating German, so in a (yet another :unamused: ) attempt to explain why people should be at least wary of ‘results’ given by such sites, I’ll say this:

:open_mouth: I tried it and it completely cocked-up only the second question I asked it. It got the third one wrong as well, then I got bored. I only asked it very short questions that a reasonable “A” level student ought to be able to answer, but I found it wasn’t up to the mark TBH. :frowning:
Another comment I’d make is that, if I’d had to ‘join’ and pay, I’d now be absolutely bouncing… :smiling_imp:
…and some other words that I’m not allowed to say on here. :wink:

Please read and check :arrow_right: THIS POST. Then put any German part you like into any ‘translation’ website you like, then please post your conclusion on here. :wink:

For some words specific to transport, I’ve separated some out and posted them within another translation I did, which is my 4th post :arrow_right: in this topic on Switzerland

IMHO, you’ll quite quickly see the world of difference between my own human translation and anything else you can find ‘out there.’

WADR to brit pete if you click and read some of the ‘translated’ links in some of his posts, it will save you the trouble of researching it for yourself.
WADR to jammymutt too, but IMHO the link he gave is no different.
IMHO such sites are (mostly) ok for translating a single word, but even then you’ll turn up some quite amusing ‘answers.’ :laughing:

I honestly don’t believe that the ‘translation’ websites deal with the following very well:
Gender, articles (especially the lack of :wink: ) case, mood of speech, voice, inflection and verb tenses.
If we take those out of any language, what you have left after ‘translation’ is almost nonsensical and probably quite a limiting factor on a site’s usefulness. IMHO, there’s not yet a good substitute for a human linguist although I’m sure the computer boffins will carry on trying.
Good luck to them, but for the forseeable future I reckon there’ll be a need for friendly human help when somebody has a problem in a foreign land. :smiley:
