Overturned Lorry

Did anyone see the overturned container lorry at Junction 25 M5 earlier, with no wind and coming the speed you should be doing coming off the roundabout i struggle to see how it is possible to tip a 40 foot container!

  1. load shifting.
  2. component failure.
  3. suddun avoiding action.
  4. collision.

Just a few possible causes.

Yes I did see it as I trundled North but couldn’t quite make out what company it was, I won’t get drawn into what might have happened hopefully driver is ok.

If it was publicised more as to what caused it maybe it could be avoided in the future even if it is driver error ?

Not that it helps when people continually run into low bridges for some reason

you have obviously never driven any thing loaded to the roof then !

It’s a 10-reg Maritime Scania.
It is now coned off and abandoned.
Container doors are open. Full load inside.

One of Billy Bowie’s rigid tankers departed from its chassis on the A303 roundabout at Andover this after, VOSA and police everywhere.

FULL LOAD that means squat in weight could be a full load of crisps

Closest I’ve ever come to tipping any lorry was a container truck loaded with clothes hangers - like you use in your wardrobe.

I was near Mold (IIRC) and leaving the estate to join the bypass I went onto the roundabout in the right lane (didn’t know both lanes went right) and a car was going around me in the other lane, then all of a sudden the car braked and disappeared behind me, checked my offside mirror to see where they’d gone and noticed my trailer wheels were about 2’ off the ground, luckily I could use the now empty space to my left and brought it down.
Stopped on the hard shoulder on the slip road to the bypass and got out and checked for any obvious damage (tyres, broken springs etc) and there was none, only reason it could’ve been was the load shifting. And I wasn’t going quick either, literally walking pace - hence why I was able to recover it.

Hope the driver’s ok, still got a few mates and people I know at Maritime.

It could be. I didn’t stop to check.

Do you EVER post anything useful? You really are a miserable ■■■.

Those skellies are not fit for purpose @ 44t. They were last tested for 28t gross. The centre of gravity is too high, at least 6’ off the ground. They are very easy to turn over, not least because most of the time the drivers never load the stuff,so have no idea if the load is top heavy.

Hi folks,

Just a quick update for those of you who are concerned.

The driver (experienced) is thankfully safe, well and now at home. He’s understandably a little shaken, battered and bruised.

The load was tall pallets of peat and the unit is an EX maritime unit. I can not say more than this as I wasn’t there and don’t know any more.

cheers

Well I for one am glad that the driver is ok physically - mentally though will need time.

Based on the fact that Albion1971 said it - surely you know that it’s always the drivers’ fault!
