I´m not sure but some drivers from Germany told me there are some routes in Spain where you can´t pay the toll with fuelcard. It´s new since one year but i don´t know which routes…With some toll boxes for france you can pay the spanish toll too…For the spanish toll i only found this page

No tank cards payment of tolls in Spain from 1 January 2013 which has Spanish toll operator ASETA himself decided to terminate the acceptance of tank card payments at the toll terminals with end of the year. From 01. 01. 2013 no fuel cards accept therefore at the Spanish motorways toll terminals to pay road tolls.
Is for a non-cash settlement in the future the following services available: ViAxxès for France and Spain for all companies, vehicle whose intended (entire fleet or a part) are regularly on the French and Spanish motorways, is the interoperable toll box ViAxxès the ideal solution.Thats a information from the shell webpage…

For Portugal here is the page from the toll company http://www.portugaltolls.com/en/web/portal-de-portagens/home

Thank you for your replys

Be careful if using the toll roads as there is a time limit on how many hours you can stay there for.
If exceed the time, the toll booth staff will make you pay a penalty charge.
The terms and conditions are in English on the reverse of the ticket and the date and time when the ticket was taken.
It is easy to place the ticket in the ash tray without knowing about the penalty.
Not sure what happens if broken down or the trailer swapdriver fails to turn up?

Got a letter from DKV this week telling me my Toll box for France and Spain now works on all routes in Portugal.

If you want to overnight park on the motorway then come off at the junction prior to the services then come back on to get a fresh ticket go to services and park up after your break come off at the next junction and again get back on. the toll tickets are valid for 12 hours got caught out myself by this a few years ago at exit booth they wanted an 80 euro surcharge said I didn’t have it, took my details and gave me a ticket with 5 days to pay it at a post office, needless to say the Portuguese deficit would be 80 euro to the plus if I had

I would use the toll road from Lisbon to Porto or vice versa.
Get to the toll booth and present a bank card that they do not accept.
I have offered to pay.
Having no cash they write out an invoice to post them the money.
It goes in my filling system known as a bin.

was that back when animals could talk toby?

Actually, he is right … I once took a wrong turn leaving Montijo and ended up back at the Ponte Vasco de Gama. I went into the Offices, explained what I had done and asked if there was somewhere I could turn round as I didn’t want to pay and go back across the bridge (seeing as it is 11 Kms long) having already been over it once that day. The lady was most apologetic and said there was nowhere to turn such a large vehicle. My only option was to cross the bridge again. When I said I didn’t want to pay again, she said not to worry and gave me a ‘promise to pay’ note which she instructed me to lose as I crossed the bridge.

Thanks The Bear.Just present a collection of cards that they do not accept.
Old or expired fuel cards. They never check the dates.
If the foreign trucks can get a free ride in the UK,it is a free ride to use their toll road.

yeah well there are computers even in portugal nowadays. a friend of mine was loading groupage around porto, going up and down the A29, which had recently been upgraded to electronic toll, for which he didn’t have the box for. much to his surprise, the first tollbooth he arrived at heading towards spain the next day, presented him with a list of gantries he had driven under on the A29 and he had to pay for those as well.

He could have asked for an invoice to pay later.

back when there was a talking giraffe behind the glass window, I’m sure he could have.

The main porto to lisbon motorway still old style toll take cards tags etc or cash

Rest are now overhead gamtries and need a tag in car ir truck registered to that numberplate
If not got get fine and all tolls to pay

It use to be as said on toll roads no more than 12 hrs
On the new electrinic toll ones no extra charge as its set amount siggnposted at each gantry

Vilaformosa to the a1 before lisbon in newstyle
The a1 is still old style toll
