Overnight mobile speed camera van on A1 - anyone noticed?

About 3 months ago, I came out of Scarborough at 9pm from the roundabout where Morrisons/Maccy D’s is, and over the railway line. I was up to the limit by the time I got over the bridge, as the road was empty and so was I, when in a scene reminiscent of the one in Convoy where they are doing 70 as they round the corner near the beginning, I saw a van in the layby just before the very long left hand bend, with 2 windows open at the back, and at that point, I thought do I keep it rolling or back it off. As he’s already got me in his range anyhow, I kept it rolling, but to date have heard nothing.

There were no markings on the van as it was silver, nor were there any camera warning signs out as they are supposed to have, so I can assume it was an ANPR van.

I know that they are trialling IR cameras for night time work, but I don’t think the technology is quite there yet but it won’t be far away. Let’s hope this isn’t one of them.

Ken.

In Sweden our Traffic police use speed cameras along the whole E4. The camera sits into house on a pole as is permanent mounted down the ground. And which pole as has a camera is impossible to know, but there are drivers as have apparatus as warn them but it is not legal. The camera takes a photo of a cars/lorries front and windshield. Peoples had begin to fell down the solar coverage? And try to hide them. But it helps not. If you drive a leasing car or another person’s car the bill goes to the owner of the car/Lorry. If you not were the person as was driving you will of source tell the driver paid him what the fine costs? It’s similar when you lease. The government as have found the law gets the income yet.

They as drive same way every day learns where the poles stands and can in time slow down the speed. We have here 50, 60 70 80 90 100 and 110 km/hour and during winter it is 50, 60, 70, 80 90 and on certain stretch 110 on good ways and not to high traffic. What have I to say about the above: yes I have drive 40 mil and the traffic rhythm is much calmer and not too hasty.

It is seldom our Police is out and use radar It seems to me the Police is working on another way in Britain but that is not so strange.

Kind regards
Lars-Gunnar

It would be funny if the guy had just fell asleep

I was past the same spot last night on my way to London and there was no sign of it so they must have got enough footage to keep them busy for a while.

Never noticed it last night. I did surprise myself somewhere bout there charging down hill n/bound at 75mph ish, i had 25.1 tonne on, flew past that forward facing camera. It was dark i forgot all about it but it never flashed.

That’ll be the one just before Gonerby Moor services then if it’s a Truvelo. I’ve never seen or heard anyone getting caught by that one (or the one half a mile after it which is no longer there) but I always ease to 50 for them just to be safe. And yeah you can get some speed up coming down that hill with a bit of weight on. :grimacing:

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t there Monday night, at least when I went past!

I’m down that way again tomorrow night so I’ll report back if the ■■■■■■■ are lurking again…

Anyone been down the A1 this past week on nights? There’s been a scamera van parked up on the grass entrance to a layby about 5 mile south of Colsterworth and about 1 mile before Woolfox Depot, just at the bottom of the downhill slope where you’ll overrun if you’ve some weight on. Was there Wed, Thur, Fri last week between 11pm and 4am at least (saw it there going down and coming back later on) and one of the fellas I work with said it was there last night too. It’s parked with side lights on and has the 2 flaps open in the top of the rear doors with camera lenses poking out. The A1 there is unlit so they must be using IR to see anything.

:open_mouth:

No.

I had another look bigvern but all I saw was a dead fox , poor thing.

I will be back that way tomorrow i will look again.

ive heard the stories of this van in work but even though i go that way on a regular basis,3/4 a.m ive yet to see it,only one ive saw is a cop van on the a43, just outside corby in a layby on the way across to the a1,about 2 weeks ago,got warned about it but thought it was a bit of ■■■■■■■■ as travelled that road on and off over the years and never seen anything at that time of day ,but it was there as lads had said

Went down A1 about hitting the spot RobK mentioned on Wed and Thursday this week - nowt.

But spotted them (ANPR) on the A19 over the bridge.before the Yarm turn off (N/B) on Friday evening about 6pm time.

A dead fox you say? I’ll get the car out, hang on a minute.
“What love…You wanna come too?”
“Ok, get the kids up and we’'ll all go. I’ll fill a flask and make some sarnies.”
“Do we need blankets or our winter fleeces?”
“Better bring both just in case, we can’t miss this!”
"The one just before Gonerby Moor that bloke keeps banging on about ain’t it?
“I think so. We’ll take a looksee anyway. Better go easy because of that Speed camera van/ANPR/ ice cream van that’s parked there!”
“Poor fox.”

Okay I’m back now…What’d I miss?

Did anyone spot that euroliner truck trim in the hedge on the A1 s/b near stamford…
