Overlength restrictions in spain (Basque)

Afternoon gents. Rarely post but find lots of useful information here. Im going to cadiz area next week (leaving friday) and will have a moffet on the back (first time pulling a moffet). Its been mentioned that i cant go via basque region as id be overlength and the police will love me long time for their coffee money and id be better going down the east side of spain instead of the direct route. Just after confirmation that this is the actual case. The gaffer wants me to go quickest route just want to be able to show him where its written if possible and the estimated fine id be paying on the DKV if i did get a pull.

Cheers guys

In Spain, any artic over 16.5m long or 2.55m wide (2.6m for fridges) is classed as a abnormal load and requires a permit. I have a Category 1 roving permit that takes me upto 20m long and 3m wide in all of Spain except for Basque and Navarra. If you wish to go into these regions you will need a separate permit. These are strictly enforced across Spain and I am asked to show my permit on most trips. I was caught without the correct permit in Navara a couple of years ago and fined 600 Euros then parked up for a week until the correct permit could be obtained. The fine could only be paid in cash. You have been warned!

thanks for the reply whelmic. looks like pulling out the tape measure as not 100% sure what combined length it will be with a moffet on back. ill put it to gaffer before i leave tomorrow and leave it totally upto him. End of the day hes the boss and i can only make a suggestion

If it is the Basque area that is the problem then maybe getting the direct boat to Santander might make things a bit easier
