Last tuesday afternoon I was heading north on I-95 from Washington DC and saw the DOt had a car transporter full of Sprinters, it looked to me to be the highest load i saw in this country and the DOt guys seemed to think the same way as they had tape measures at hand, it looked about 15 to 16 ft high. How the hell did he get that far ? bridges in the interstate system being 13ft 9inches I can’t think how he did it.
13’9 ■■? that’s low! do they not have double deckers over there then ?
He never came from Detroit then, the bridges there are as low as 13’ 6" I always hold my breath going under those, although they’re a lotta fun when it’s been snowing and you have a couple of inches on the top of the trailer, big cloud of snow dust in the mirrors, the PA Turnpike is good for that too & both places get a lot of snow so plenty of fun to be had
Denis, no double deckers here, they want more cube, they just make em longer

Two nations divided by a common language and simple logic.Over here they’d just spend millions and take years raising all the bridges.
I mainly do reels down to the USA @ 15’ 6"… great fun following the permitted routes which can add many many (paid) miles to a delivery, and as it’s an over dimensional load I get paid more… woop woop!
When I was on decks I found oversize to be a total PITA, I always seemed to get them on a Friday so spent far too much time parked up for the weekend, I got extra money, but it never seemed to compensate for the lost miles, mind you I always seemed to get stuck close to a bar, so every cloud…
The UK is unique in the fact that the minumum height is 16’6" compared to mainland Europe with 14’6". All bridges in the UK must be at least 3" above the marked height.
On the NY thruway every service area has a sign at the entrance saying the mx height is 13’9".

Timing is all.
The proximity to bars is a coincidence, on those times when we have been parked up!

Most of my weekends were in Northern Ontario so my proximity to bars was totally planned, a complete skinful was the only way I could find the local ‘talent’ appealing
double decks should be banned anyway hate pulling them that the best of times let alone in bad weather lol and great fun on some round abouts
When I worked for Tesco I did a change over in the Middleton depot and had a DD to pull back to MK, I hooked up and went o pull out but as I turned off the dock the trailer rocked severely so I asked to break the seal and check the load, I could not believe what I found when the doors were opened … the bottom deck had cages full of crisps and the top deck was bottles of drink
I had the entire load re-arranged before taking it, I would have rolled over at the first roundabout.
