You really wouldn’t want to get close enough to find out

We keep the garbage in the garage out of the bears way.

We ended up doing that in the end well actually I put it in the horse trailer(also handy as it needed to go 3 miles down the trak to the collection point)

The only thing is now i have to clean up not only the dog doo but now bear doodoo too!! :unamused:

So much for the theory that bears only [zb] in the woods then

Hello mrs rocket  I have just read all of the posts on your move over to Canada. It has made very interesting reading and I enjoyed the picures too. I must admit I admire you and your hubby for upping sticks, Its not easy leaving friends and family behind especially so far away. I have always wanted to move abroad but the mrs won’t leave her family where as I wouldn’t have a problem. Like you said life is too short. Anyway I’ll continue to read your additional posts so keep up the good work. Its nice to get an incite into something like this. Hope things continue to go well for you all

All the best Nige

Good to hear that all is going well for you there.

I can see why so many make the move from the UK to Canada, the U.S. and Australia. I, on the other hand, will move to the UK sometime in the near future, from my native Canada. My mother who lives on the I.O.W. for six months of the year is getting old, and for some reason I feel a very large pull to return to the UK. I lived there for my school years, and I want to return to a place where I have some mixed memories.

All the best to you Rocket and to your family.

Thanks Nicholas and Big Nige,
Ron wanted to move when the eldest was about 1 year old(11 years ago) but i wouldn’t cos of my family, but you know as the years went on i thought theres nothing here in the uk for the boys,i don’t want them growing up and getting beaten up or into drugs(i know that could happen here too) but since we moved over the boys have really come on the eldest use to be so quiet and shy(like his mum  ,ron would totally disagree with that statement  ) but his confidence has grown and the youngest is doing well too(he is more outgoing like his dad)
Yeah i miss the family but i phone and email them every week and they now have an excuse to visit Canada,my sister and her hubby where over with us at the beginning of june and they loved it,she said next time she is staying longer. My eldest niece is coming over at the beginning of august and i am trying to talk my mum and dad into coming over for a month or two,we will have to wait and see on that one.

All in all it’s the best thing we have done and anyone thinking about it,just go for it,life is too short.
Take care all
mrs rocket

Hows the job side of things going for Ron?

The job side of it is going well,Ron enjoys driving(obviously or he wouldn’t be a trucker  ) and seeing different parts of Canada and the USA.
He was a bit peeved cos the load he dropped off in grande prairie alberta the other day was being taken up to the Yukon by another truck firm and he really wants to go up that way.

Even better if he had his own rig, that will come in time i guess.
mrs rocket

hi Mrs Rocket
Funny you arrived here on the 7th October last year thats when we flew over to have a look.
We liked it so much we arranged everything while we were here and my husband moved over on the 6th Feb this year i joined him in April with our Daughter.
We are in Winnipeg so not far from you my Husband opted to go to Bison and he loves it they are a very good company he get home when he askes and although he is away a lot he get enough time at home. That suits me i dont want him under my feet every day (im sure u know what i mean).
He was always away in Europe so whats the difference ?

Welcome njb1962. See lots of Bison trucks down here in New England.Does he get over this way?

Hi Longwayround dont think hes been to New England yet but i know hes ticking off all the U.S States as he goes to them we have only been here 6 months and he said he has done 39 of the U.S states so far he is down in California at the moment and due home next weekend.

I drove right down through there yesterday. The GW bridge was interesting for me.

Anyway, Mrs R.

Female Black bears have ears which are larger than the males, and appear to be close together while the males have smaller ears set wide apart. (So they obviously get nagged by the ladies, too, but have evolved smaller ears so they can’t hear it as well while lady bears have the female equivilant of radar to detect even the slightest answering back!!)

Males generally look bulkier and have a more blocky snout.

So armed with this info, is he Harry or is she Hermione?

We now have a bearskin rug. It’s still alive at the moment and marauding through the woods in the back but Bear season starts August 27th. :smiling_imp:

BTW, what’s wrong with being a Potter fan?

Bought the book on Tuesday night and finished it Weds morning.

Hi njp1962,how are things going? we absolutely love it over here,Ron is on his way to New Foundland at the moment waiting to see if he gets on the ferry.

Bob there’s nothing wrong with being a potter fan,ron and the boys are looking forward to seeing the movie, have you seen it yet?
Haven’t seen the bear for a while, think he/she started coming at night when the dogs are asleep, fed up running away from them probably,my neice is over on hols so she is looking forward to seeing the bear.

Well good news we got our permanent residency last week, went round the flag pole  ,we have to wait 2 years to become canadian citizens.
take care all
bye for now
mrs rocket

Ria and Ron.

I am concerned as we have heard nothing for ages.

With regard to the bear, please be careful as the temper will be getting shorter now and it could be getting shirty. Also, if it is a sow, keep an eye out for cubs in the spring as they are really quite dangerous then.

Is it true there are some large cats around?

Hey Bob haven’t been eaten by the bear  still here, too busy to come on here that often looking after my chickens, dogs, cats enjoying life here, even less time soon as i start my new job next tuesday so i won’t be on here as often and Ron never comes on here. I gave up coming on here for a while cos of the idiot who wound everyone up talking through his ■■■,I think you know who i mean.
The bear hasn’t been around for a while,I heard there was some big cats around the Marchand area,I think more so up Sandilands area.
Anyway how’s things with you and your family?
Ron has been over to new foundland and stuck in nova scotia because of the wonderful NEW truck he has broke down YET AGAIN!!! Have you got one of those new ones? he’s had more trouble with that one than he ever had with the old one.
We are still enjoying life here been here a year now,so we’ve been through all the seasons now, just waiting for the lovely snow to appear :unamused: ,it was here this time last year,so we’re making the most of the fine weather.
Take Care speak soon
Ria

good to hear your still enjoying life in canada ria

hope the winters not to bad this year
have heard word of some vad storms due early november

Hi Dave
We are prepared for the weather this year, the kids will be checking the school bus monitor to make sure they can stay off  Someone told my friend the other day we usually have snow by the end of October so not long now,my neighbour said once you see the white geese you can expect snow 2 weeks later,we saw them last week so we could be all white next week.
take care all
Ria

Not got a new one thankyou very much. It’s these new emissions laws that are screwing perfectly good engines up.

I got threatened with one of the Volvos backaways but I can’t see it happening. Mine went bang this week.

The wife says she heard something unusual the other night, a wowing sound. I won’t be putting up with any cats in the yard, that’s for sure.

I have been here nearly 2 years now. Scary, isn’t it.

I beleive they’re having lots of trouble with the new ones,a few people are having problems :unamused:ok if they sort the problem out ,maybe best to stick your old one as long as you can.

So are there big cats round by you? We haven’t heard anything around here, but i’m sure the dogs would go crazy if there was something about, they did when the bear was around, wouldn’t let them out though, don’t want my dogs to be big cat food :frowning:
