Hi all. I drive a skip wagon for my employer who also runs the local recycling center. When im back in the yard on my 45 I often get asked by the lads in the yard can they use my wagon to empty a few skips whilst im not using it. I have no problem with this but what should I do about my tacho? Obviously I cant let them just drive off whilst on break but I believe I’m not suppose to remove it either until end of shift of a wagon swap.
Any help much appreciated as my “transport manager” doesn’t know his a*re from his elbow.
Thanks Martin
i’d take it out and have my break.

No problem removing the card if the vehicle is to be used by someone else while you’re on break.
Remove the card, then when you re-insert it after your break do a manual entry to show that you was on break.
If you want to play safe you could keep a written record in a notebook of the days that the vehicle was used by someone else during the break, it’s not legally required to keep a written record but if you get stopped by VOSA it could help both you and them and save time.

Not really,
Just pull the disc out and do a manual entry for your break on the back.
You could to absolutly cover your arse and make it bombproof is write on the disc that you pulled the card as ‘vehicle used for yard shunting whilst driver on break’.

The fact that it’s an analogue tachograph doesn’t really change anything, technically you’re supposed to have approval to remove a chart but presumably your boss is OK with it, so that’s approval enough
If you do as B1 GGK suggested and write on the back of the chart why the chart was removed you’ll have more than covered yourself for any eventuality.
