guy i know mid 60s once told me he had got out his car at night midway over the bridge and climbed onto the parapet wall and stood looking over the side
said if its nighttime you can look in your mirror and see way back if no traffics coming ,pull up to a stop and get out

I can do 66mph coastin over the top round the bend heading for felixstowe fully laden. Not related just showin off, usually leave someone trying to overtake hung out to dry even the odd car cant match my daring doo stupidity.

Yes, it’s a “no stopping” road like the rest of the A14. There’s a footpath over the bridge if you want to park up in a lay-by and walk over to have a look.
he didnt seem like he was lying . he asked me had i ever wanted to do it [stand on the parapet wall ], when i said i never had hewas a bit suprised.apparently hed wanted to do it for ages but had to wait for the right time when no traffic was behind him
its one of those things that iv wondered about ever since, hav i got the bottle to do it - im not sure if i have
the guy was ex army had worked in bomb disposal iv no reason to disbelieve that as he never once bragged about it
do you think the wall top is flat surface ? or peaked ?

iv been told its an offence to walk over the bridge as its not a proper footpath
[he was aged around 60 now iv thought it over and must have been about the same age when he stood on the wall. not young but fairly fit looking, heavy smoker

It was in 2014 – the Highways Agency are quoted here as saying the bridge is “an important public right of way across the bridge for pedestrians wishing to cross the estuary”.
