Orange or Yellow Hi Viz?

This may come as a stupid question but I recently got put on a different agency job and the company said I had to come back the next day with an orange hi viz rather than the yellow one I had on …
Asking why they say the rules are changing making it standard for drivers to wear orange■■?
I was puzzled why they wouldn’t just give me one of theirs on the day…Maybe they wanted try me out and didn’t want me advertising their motto with me just starting the place…puzzled■■?

no doubt theres a highly technical reason for the 2 colours, but until someone spouts it,then id assume it was to determine just how far up its own jacksy the h&s orienated company sees itself…or mabey there giving you a shift on a train.

depends where your going. i have orange for quarries power stations coal mines and the such some wouldn’t let you on site if you had yellow

and trousers and arms covered in some of the places

Just depends what your doing

Ok cheers…cheeky gets should jus give me one of the thousands they ave prob got stored away in storeroom rather than me buy a new one…Not dear I know but it’s principle…thanks again jus wondered wtf he was on bout all drivers will ave wear orange eventually …

cannot see all drivers needing to wear them but i could be wrong it may just be the type of work he dishes out that he may have been referring to or even a H&S policy of the company ■■■■ knows

Only seen that two times.

One is on building site working with cranes. Their banksmen and slingers had to wear orange and only they were allowed wear it. It was so the crane operators knew who’s instructions to follow from a distance.

Another was a similar set up in a warehouse. Pickers etc in yellow, drivers/visitors in orange. Was to do with different levels of safety induction and authorisation.
Same thing, tell who’s who from a distance. H&S people knew if there was someone standing where they weren’t allowed by the jacket alone.

It’s probably specific to their own H&S policy

that one about the craneman actually makes sense…who would have thought it. :open_mouth:

Did they tell you which leg to limp on? :open_mouth:

I do wonder if there is a general leg that one must use or does it differ from agency to agency do you think? perhaps its even geographic

Orange started out on the railway. Now it’s everywhere. It’s true that slingers/signallers/banksmen seem to always be orange. Has anyone else noticed that hard hats are going the same way?. All the sites I work on it’s black for a supervisor or manager and white for the plebs. I was turned away one time for having the wrong colour hat :unamused:

i reckon it depends on what side of the pavement they want to walk on when heading into work, definately scope for scraping the gutters out as an alternative income there also…

I’ve been turned away from sainsburys building sites (non driving) for not wearing there new orange vests, even though mine WAS orange and had sainsburys printed on it. “Its not the current one” they said! Even my safety glasses weren’t in spec [SMIRKING FACE]

The orange vests were originally seen on the railway as when working at night it was to do with the type of lighting being used , the orange was seen better than the yellow which was why orange was used in doors .

Get one of those two tone types. Orange & yellow. Hi-Viz is HI-VIZ after all.

Could just get a pink 1    or green

Used to work in a manufacturing factory and the MD made all the woman wear pink hi viz jackets… Don’t think he was being sexist we just generally struggled to tell them apart from the men… talk about rough

I got myself a camouflage H-Vis jacket! :open_mouth:

Doing a contract with royal mail and can only wear yellow cos orange blends in with the truck colour.

At last, a h and s ruling that kinda makes sense.

Haha cheers all!!!
