A lot of years ago now I had my licence paid for I was on sick due to accident at work not my fault was driving anything unto 7.5t as that is what my licence allowed
But I had to jump through a lot of hoops to to get this 1st at least 2 letters from employers to say if passed they would take me on yep I did manage this
I did say where I wanted to go but had to be local it took a while due to a hold up on DVLA part after medical then theory & HPT then course I have been working since only gained my C from this as this was all that they would fund at the time I did go on to do my CE have not stopped working since so prob have paid it back & more in tax & NI contributions I have not taken anything back as I am not entitled to working tax credit etc
So it does & can work I did have to fund my own cpc as done test before this came out
There was a lot of funding by veering bodies at the time I did also have my digi card paid for by a different body ( economical development fund local council ) I was giving an allowance for uniform I was told where I had to go & what I was allowed
I have since replaced most of it
As I said this was many years ago but as the OP lives in Scotland & is being funded by 1 of there schemes the welsh did have a similar IIRC although the English don’t not sure why if they are genuine I don’t have a problem with it but if not interested then they should not be allowed this
Getting a truck licents is not the only thing you can get paid for via being on jsa, i found out recentley you can train as a stone mason at bath collage.
First two years basically for free, normally £ 2000 a year. Two days a week. Then the last year you have to pay the normal £ 3000. £ 4000 grand saving on the training all told.
Seems to be alot of funded training for job seekers now. I think it’s a great thing. For the people that want too work thay have a opertuneatity to start a new life witch otherwise thay might never been able to afford. As for the wasters well there always going around.

The issue being I’ve not only paid for my training but also contributed to yours, leaves a bad taste pal which I know isn’t your fault because why wouldn’t you take it.
Your taxes also go to fund projects across the EU, something you’ll never see the results of. I’m finding it hard to blame someone for taking free training then using it to re-enter the world of work in a career they actually take an interest in. This guy is now working again and paying tax just like you are.

The point is that there is plenty of work about that doesn’t require training, “IF” people want to work.
Why should those that get off their arses and fund their own training, end up in the same boat as those that need spoon feeding?
Perhaps if the job centre said “hold down this unskilled (warehouse or something) job for 6 months, then come back and see us and we’ll pay for your training when you’ve shown us you’re serious about working” - I think I could live with that a bit easier than just paying straight off the bat.
That being said I’d still rather pay for a British person on the dole to get training than pay child benefit to a Polish person’s kid living in Poland…but that’s a different story…

I think all recipients of jobseekers should be forced to do class 2 and if unemployed for more than 6 months, they should be forced to do class 1 regardless of how many retests it happens to take.
this would have many advantages, for the jobseekers, there would be much more wide choice of occupation, and for the employer, they would only have to pay minimum wage, people could take it or leave it.
also the jobcentre could send people on unpaid work experience driving artics, this gives the unemployed experience, hence a leg up over those already working and paying their own way through because they have already got a job, so naturally someone on benefits should be considered first.
it’s about time shemes like this were rolled out all over the country, get em all off the dole and into a truck I say!

Trolling of the highest order, congratulations.
So basically the hardworking tax payer is less important than someone who isn’t just so long as it keeps statistics down. You should be a politician.

I agree with this point, not sure a lot of people would stick at it though from reading this thread it sounds a bit like some people would rather be on the dole than do a job they don’t like. Yes working in a call centre, supermarket, warehouse, security guard etc, like most of the jobs the job centre will push you towards isn’t great but surely more pride in doing that than sitting around all day, plus it’s not forever anyway & is a road to something better if you choose to make it such.

But then you would not be entitled to any help with funding as you would be working so no longer there problem
I did do work in a warehouse for quite a while was paid minimum wage but it ended as a direct result of this government coming into power
So maybe they should think about creating decent jobs with a sensible wage ( above min ) that would help
Don’t have a real problem with this as long as it is what the person actually wants not just what the job centre want to push & help getting a job after then that person would be paying back through there tax etc & be off benefits
