What a joke theres me working my arse of paying my taxes whilst the unemployed get given everything for nothing. I paid over a £1000 from my own pocket for my class 1. What a complete joke.

I agree with pompeymark. Absolute [zb]ing joke.
If you want to be a LGV driver, work hard and save up the dough. I am really getting ■■■■■■ off with my taxes being abused.
Fat barstewards having gastric bands because they have eaten themselves to oblivion. Immigrants sending tax credit money back home for their kids. Bone idle pricks who sit outside the Job centre with their G Star Raw jeans on rolling a ■■■ with their skanky fingers, after getting their dole. Council houses provided for them along with free dental care.
And now free LGV licences. FFS what has happened to this Country?
Sssssshhhhhhhhhhhh [emoji55]
Don’t think they’ve clicked on to the free dental treatment situation yet
I think it’s exactly what our taxes should be paying for. Get them off JSA, paying tax and in the long run saving us money, however if someone walks off the course without good reason then benefits should be stopped.
When i was working for P&H on Agency there was someone there on a similar scheme, he was employed as a driver’s mate until he got his licence. Think he had to stay a year after getting his licence and had two attempts iirc. I got off the agency shortly after don’t know what happened to him.
The problem only lies where the person does not want to do the training and will do anything they can not to pass the tests. It’s easy enough to fail when you try to pass let alone wanting to fail!
Lucky sod I went to job centre for some PPE equipment for a new job and they said we don’t do that just in case any happens and I sue them! What a joke
We had 6 guys come through from the job centre as part of a scheme to get them into work. Out of the 6, only 2 are actually capable of getting a job which is saying something as our place isn’t exactly picky when it comes to drivers. One guy has been banned from driving and has previous with the fuzz for punching an officer at a football game in Grimsby. One showed up for one day before jacking it in.
I was unemployed for 8 months so I saw the usual Job centre clientele. You had the ones that never bothered to do anything, happier on benefits and nicking stuff from the local corner shop. Then you had the people who had been working since they left school only to be made redundant. You tell these people had genuine desires to get back into work. These are the sorts of people that need the help and training to get them back out there and if more schemes like this were open to them then it can only be a good thing. The problem is these people aren’t entitled to these programs because they either have been on JSA for very long or they are too over qualified yet the “advisers” are sending them to places like Aldi to stack shelves.

Whats a class 1/2? Is that a van/puddle jumper [emoji6]
Knew as soon as OP posted this would open up the can of wriggles!
Personally doesn’t bother me how he gets his licence provided he really wants to do it?
If I was in his position I’d have took the free training rather than spend any money I might have scrimped and saved up.
It’s the system that’s wrong really, very very wrong!
To be fair, the OP seems like genuine bloke/woman/person. Not everyone has £2k5 to spend on their license, so if this gives them the step up they need, fair play.
I’m sure we would all do the same as the OP in his situation.
That being said it still peeves quite a few of us off that we put in a lot of hard work to get the licences while the government feeds them to people on a silver spoon; usually to people who probably do not even want it.

I’ll have you naysayers know, these things do actually work.
Around 7 years ago, I had been unemployed for a year or so, doing the odd agency work when I could. I was offered one of these courses, which at the time, was run by Perth College. I got my Class 2, worked and saved for a couple of years and finally got my Class 1.
I’m now running my own training company, and have been looking in to getting SQA registered and offering just these sorts of courses.
I have already spent in excess of £15k in the last couple of years on training, vehicles, insurances, signwriting etc.
I don’t agree with this sort of thing, as it devalues the wages of those that can get off their arse and sort themselves out. There isn’t a shortage of work for people that want to better themselves, yes it may be grotty undesirable work for a while saving up for your licences, but that’s the way normal people have to do it. Why should those that can’t motivate themselves to work get it for free?
Anyone unemployed who is fit and healthy is just lazy or not trying hard enough in my opinion. And If a job requires training, then the candidate should have to sign a loan agreement with the job centre! Can I go on the dole for 6 months and then ask to be trained as a pilot? I thought not, so why are HGV drivers being targeted and devalued? We live in a world of supply and demand, and the greater the supply, the lower the demand and thus the wages…
I like to think everyone deserves a fair go and a helping hand if needed but I’m struggling with this. I’m in the process of gaining my cat c which as you know costs a lot of hard earned cash plus an extra lot for a retest , not exactly in a well paid job now so this is a big undertaking and for someone on the dole to just be handed it stinks imo.
Hi all. This is my very first post on this forum. Have been enjoyed reading a lot of the stories shared on this site. I saw this this topic and thought I would add my 2 pennies worth.
I have been unemployed since end of last August and the jobcentre have provided me with the funding for the lgv licences and tests etc.
At present they have paid for the modules 1 to 4 - so I have passed my class 2 and awaiting my licence to come back to go for class 1. All funded by the jobcentre.
I would not have been able to afford to do this on my own.
There are a number of people who have taken this up and all cant wait to be driving full time. Most of them want to do tramping to earn the big money.
Getting off the dole is my main priority and doing something I want to do rather than take any old job the jobcentre try and force down your throat is bloody great.
I did not want to sit around on a check out or be a cleaner - all on poxy minimum wage!!!
Having a job on £8+ an hour is nigh on impossible these days and trying to get a FULL TIME job - you can forget it. Everyone wants to take you on part time etc. So this opportunity is fantastic.
The issue being I’ve not only paid for my training but also contributed to yours, leaves a bad taste pal which I know isn’t your fault because why wouldn’t you take it.
I dont really think about where my taxes go. Would give me an headache.
All i know is I was born in this country and foreigners coming into this country and having a free ride gets my goat!
If I was a single man - I would not have a roof over my head. I would be on the streets. Thats what concerns me. No help for single people.
When I am working - i hope my taxes help pay for any other people to get into work. Those that really do want to work. Being on the dole and walking through those jobcentre doors and being held to ransom if you forget to fill in that booklet or universal jobmatch is a joke.
Its being made to sound easy peasy to get the funding…well its not for 99%, you have to be unemployed by looks of it a year plus, and the funding is Ni-on hidden.
What I feel would be better is if you get the tickets, then get a job the cost should be paid back too gov.
If you don’t and keep signing on it should be taken from your JSA in fair amounts untill its paid, or if you don’t go into the HGV game it should automatically be deducted from whatever job you do take, again in small amounts or in full I wage is over what is considered basic.
Now i said 99% well the 1% is a story i heard of a bloke who had been a headmaster for 30yr, decided to take PAID REDUNDANCY, then walked straight into JSA centre, signed on and got the lot done by GOV for free!!
THAT TO ME IS TRUELY DISGUSTING and again just shows what is wrong with this poxy country…
