Operation Trivium

A multiagency campaign is underway this month with the police, dvsa, hmrc working to try and catch foreign drivers flouting the law. There are cops over from Poland, Lithuania etc to help out. I think it is a nationwide operation. Certainly blitzing North Yorks roads. You have been warned. When no johnny foreigner about they will look at us.

When no johnny foreigner about

Not likely to be any shortage these days, is there?

Kent police got two over weight vans this morning, but guess its like shooting fish in a barrel on the m20

At least they’re making a bit of wedge for the exchequer now, it’s kerching time once the on the spot fines came in. I’m no angel but some lads take the ■■■■.

It’s looking at all foreign vehicles including cars, not just commercial vehicle’s

Oh thats just great. Do DVSA licence “foreign drivers”? erm…No. Do “foreign drivers” have to pay tax to HMRC? erm…No.

But the foreign police will be able to tell a fake licence tbat britsh police might miss, also they should be able to check if a foreign vehicle has a mot from that country and it is up to date (and every e.u. country has a anual test) might take a few if the foreign reg cars off the roads, because if they are now living in the u.k. they are only allowed I think either 6 or12 months before they have to go onto british plates, and how many poles have been driving their cars over here for longer than that? Quite a few I would think!!!

Maybe, but i wouldn’t of thought any “foreign police” have any jurisdiction here what so ever.

They don’t but they would an advisor and our police would arrest/hand out fines, unless they are given our uniforms and the same powers on a temporary basis (very unlikely)

I love how on this forum its sort of assumed ‘foreign drivers’ are law breaking mad men! Let me tell you a little secret, most of these foreign drivers have to drive through countries who’s enforcement agencies laugh at VOSA and its piddling fines.

I for one think that its most def a good thing. Im sick to death of seeing the uk haulage industry robbed by our foreign cousins.
I was following a bulgarian truck n drag up the M6 last week. The bloke veered lanes every bump in the road we came to. I didnt dare attempt an overtake, and when it came to the roadworks at 10A it was a lottery. So I stood back and just marshalled the middle lane to his rear. I rang vosa and told them that they had this driver, and of my concerns. Unfortunately the vosa area at stafford was rammed, and the galaxy was heading s/b so they missed him. Do I know why his truck was behaving such? No, but I would have slept easier if I did know, and if it was a driver that was running bent or a truck that was badly maintained, then the vosa would of had the powers to take it off the road - for the good of everyone.

But dont you know you should fear everything(?) :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

In the words of the Love Police

The person next to you has either swine flu or is a terrorist?

Been following this operation on twitter. This one siezed by vosa for 45 hrs and nearly £500 in fines and yes, its left hand drive.
The foreign police are here in an advisory capacity and have no powers here in the uk. They help with the interpretation when Johnny Foreigner gets questioned.

Romanian truck just been seized by North Yorks Police. No friggin insurance!!

I for one would be quite happy if they target the non UK registered private vehicles. There are loads of EE agency drivers, who manage to have a UK licence for work, but still drive about in a EE plated vehicle.

Doesn’t seem quite fair to me :frowning:

Exactly, when you’re on the continent you don’t get bothered a lot by enforcement agencies. Then when you get over the channel and start your journey across old blighty, the DVSA try and do you from tachograph infringements to accusing you of being overweight if you’re in a four wheeler and that’s before you’ve even set foot onto a weighbridge. The DVSA ■■■■ me off full stop.
