I did not wanted to say that you are old school, altough I wanted to say that I admire all these traditions…
As for the juggernaut - you survived the big Juggernaut of 10 new EU members in 2004, so you should manage to survive Bulgarian-Romanian transit van Especially that this 2004 Juggernaut no longer heading for head on crash with you - now it just racing along and altough is still a bit faster, as I pointed it starts to slowing down and soon you will be able to keep up with him.
That was my whole point here…
Otherwise I agree with you (except for this crap bit comparing me to Harry Monk, I really do not repeat any stupid myths here).

Bottom line Orys is that our manufacturing/produce supplies and workforce take a hit whilst its cheaper to get it from other parts of the EU. Its nothing to do with work ethic, quality or standard of education. Its all to do with cost/profit.

Off course. I never disagreed with that. Its one of the biggest pieces in that jig-saw.
As has been stated that east europeans are piching our jobs, Nah cant be true ! The small shipping company I work for has only two wee ships. This week we saw a Ukranian deckhand join one and next week I will have the dubious honour of getting a new chief officer, he’s Polish (cant see me getting much kip if he is like the normal vodka guzzling ■■■■ heads we see on other boats)
Both British flag ships though not Bulgarian or the like.

this is the attitude I don’t like. If I said “I have new Scottish driver in my company, I wonder if he is a standard Scottish whisky guzzling drunkard like the other ones I have to work with, and with his Scottish driving standards I expect new dents in our vehicles every week”, not only everyone would jump at me at once, but even I would feel bad about saying that. But when someone makes same assumption about Eastern European person, it is all all right…
Its NO assumption Unfortunately Orys, to back up the claim here are just a few instances, all checkable on the MCA & MAIB websites.
Ship bound across north sea, collides with a gas platform and eventually sink, captain arrested and jailed for being drunk … Polish !
Chemical tanker in the Thames, Ukranian captain arrested and banged up for being ■■■■■■■
Small coaster in Southampton, master arrested and jailed for attempting to sail while intoxicated … Polish
Coaster ‘Fingal’ ran ashore on rocks north end of the Isle of Mull, escorted back to Oban where master arrested for being as ■■■■■■ as a ■■■■ and endangering the ship and crew, fined £3300, second time he piled her ashore, first time he hit the Ilse of Pladda south of Arron. I relieved him at Warrenpoint couple years ago and he was quite merry then on arrival alongside… Polish
Union Moon decided to have a go at at ferry in Belfast Lough, but came off second best, master arrested for being ratarsed and jailed, Yes once more, he was Polish.
One more case but a bit closer to home so no names and he got away with it.
I suggest you do your research on the nationalities of those who get arrested for being drunk while in charge of a boat !! Sorry mate

Yes, we’ve been through that discussion before. I don’t deny facts. But I can also give you many example of Scottish drivers whop crashed lorries being charged with drunk driving (I worked with two myself!), but I do not assume that everyone are like that, despite that Scots have worse drunk driving records than Poles as I read the other day. THIS is my point.
It’s this thing with media, they write when someone does something wrong, but they stress nationality mostly only in cases when the culprit was Eastern European. But you don’t hear about 100s of Poles who do a good job. Therefore your assumption is unjust and this is what I am talking about.
And apart of that, I doubt that you would allow yourself similar assumption if your new workers were Italian, despite the bad record Italians have, just to mention Costa Concordia…
Scottish have worse driving record than the Poles ■■? where did you read that ? Dandy or the Beano
The Italian wasn’t actually driving the Concordia at the time, hadn’t he just finished shafting a female crew member and was waving to his friends on that rock? Or summit similar.

Drink driving. Bigger percentage of them are caught drink driving. I saw that in one of the Polish community magazines, with UK goverment sources quoted. Nevermind.

yeah, whatever. You perfectly well know what I am talking about, and I am not willing to get into any discussion about number of offenders per nation. I just asking you, do you think that sweeping all the same with the same brush is:
a) never fair
b) always fair
c) fair, but only when we speak about Eastern Europeans.
?
Because after several times we spoke on that forum, I have a feeling that your answer here is c).
Actually Orys I think you mean ‘tarring them all with the same brush’ not sweeping, an old English saying that dates back to the days of old wooden sailing ships, done to preserve the wood.
Its the east europeans that are flooding the jobs market in my industry not the italians or any other so on them I can make no comment can I?
The Polish lad who was mate with me and will be again was a top man at his job and socially but it is the rotten apple in the barrel that spoils the rest. Another old english saying

Sneaked from answering the question directly, but thats good enough confirmation for me. Thank you and good night.
Ninite Orys, you carry on dreaming of the utopia that you think is Poland while I fall asleep thinking of how I can get one of my own countrymen to do the same job that yours will do for a ■■■■ sight less than the going rate therefore ruining it for everyone else. Sweet dreams xxxxx
