Oops....someone forgot the handbrake

Winseer:
Doesn’t anyone crimp the kerb when parking up on a downhill slope anymore? :unamused:

That’s what i’d have done. Brought to you by the " Wise after the event Dept: "

Conor:
I doubt very much it was parked with the brake off. On that incline it would have started moving pretty much as soon as he took his foot off the brake and certainly before he’d managed to reach the back of the motor on his way to get his bit of timber.

The knobhead didn’t have the intelligence to ratchet strap the skids down in the first place mate, so Monsieur Rocket-Scientist has at least the capability to leave his handbrake off.

I hope volvo see this video, this is proof that those stupid handbrakes are dangerous. Electronic handbrakes have been known not to come on when you press them. The drive looks to be an old hand at the game cant see hom forgetting the brakes, ultimitly its his fault, would it have happened with the lever park brake tho? I blame volvo and that crap electronic brake, this is proof its dangerous.

I had a new volvo for a week and a few times I put brake on for it to start rolling forward

My Volvo is two years old never had a hand brake issue.
I recon he pulled lt but didn’t wait for lock to engage same as can be done with any make

As Luke said kerb could hold it and flight jolt of him getting out and shutting door could of moved wheel enough to move it and on a downhill slope speed will soon build.
I think I posted about guy that rolled in to me it happened as quick as his feet hit deck

Seeing as he seems to thick to realise if you want to catch a truck, it’s best to drop the huge bit of timber you’re carrying, it’s anyone’s guess what he did. Could be just as likely he switch the blower motor on 2 and got out.

Imagine going back to yard I know lorry smashed up but I saved the timber

Whats an electronic brake when its at home ? seriously i don’t know, as I’ve never used one.

It’s a switch on the dash instead of a lever. I think they are great, I almost never touch the switch itself as handbrake automatically comes on on stopping the engine and releases when you put into gear and move foot from brake to throttle.

Ah there’s some of that CSI conclusion jumping. They aren’t dangerous if used properly and in many instances they are safer, I.e they come on automatically when you stop the engine. You don’t really think Volvo just plonked it in with no extensive testing now do you? Trucks have been rolling away because of driver error for as long as that old chap has been alive!

The fact is the driver got flagged down as he was oblivious to the fact that he was dropping a bunch of unstrapped timber bearers all over the road, eventually stopping at the top of the slip road he got out to collect his timber, he also had to be told that his truck was rolling away as he was oblivious to that as well.
The driver has since been sacked, and quite rightly too, only pure luck that there wasn’t a serious accident when it rolled across and down the A50.
This isn’t TruckNet CSI, our driver is the one that initially flagged him down and his (red) truck can be seen in the rear view mirror on the footage.

He sounds like something of a numpty then who’s incompetence has finally caught up with him.

Cheers pal. Interesting. So if he’d have stopped the engine running, the wagon wouldn’t have well, run away from him ?

It wasn’t a Volvo it was an iveco

Totally unprofessional. No trailer plate :stuck_out_tongue:

In all seriousness, is there a specific offence relating to forgetting to apply, knocking off or a failing handbrake? Maybe a missing trailer plate and losing that bearer is all he can be done for. One thing’s for sure, his general ■■■■ poor attitude to the job is evident, and he was probably on borrowed time for a major incident :unamused:

Wouldn`t Dangerous Driving cover it?
A person is to be regarded as driving dangerously for the purposes of sections 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 if
the way he/she drives falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver, and it would be obvious to a competent and careful driver that driving in that way would be dangerous

I didn’t see much dangerous driving, and his running wasn’t very dangerous either

he certainly wasn’t exceeding the speed limit anyway

Just leaving a vehicle unattended with the engine running is an offence, and that’s before it has started moving.

Do you not use your handbrake when your stationary in traffic or at lights?

No, not usually.
