Drivers may only be in possession of one driver’s smart card, and must never use anyone else’s card or allow another driver to use their card.
so this means you can only be in possession of 1 card in your name, as in, lose your card, get a new one, then find the original is a no no,
or does it also mean if a truck is double shifted then the drivers can’t leave their cards in the truck whilst at home and the other fella is driving the truck?
If you lose your card, report it, and are issued a new one the old card will be cancelled so even if you find it then it will no longer be valid; the new card will have a different number to the old one. If you find the original then you can just bin it as it’s no good to you and there is no pint carrying it with you.
And, before anyone says anything, you wouldn’t need to carry it with you for the 28 days records thing. There is nothing in the regulations about 28 days on your digi card. The 28 day thing is for charts and any required printouts. You are only required to produce your digi card and you would produce the new, valid card which would cover you for that requirement.
A driver leaving there card in the truck somewhereand going home doesn’t really mean you are in possession of it if it’s in your wallet then yes but just lying in the dash then no.

But the card will still work in a tacho machine. The cards aren’t that clever that they can be cancelled. On a database they would appear as cancelled but you would have to physically be stopped at a check and have them check the validity of your card.

If you find the old card, you are supposed to return it.

Yeah but who is going to be daft enough to do that? They won’t know you’ve found it so you can just bin it, or keep it as a souvenir. I’ve got 3 cards here, two cancelled and one current.
