of course all he wants to do is limit free speech. if you can control how much is in the public domain then you can control the narrative and those that have eyes to see cannot spread the word.
all in the name of protecting minors of course when anyone with an ounce of common can see it will do nothing of the sort. The only way to protect minors online is through parental supervision but most parents are too lazy to even know where their child is most of the time let alone supervise them.
Who is?
But you are half right, the only way is to ban the internet, publishing, and radio and television. And even then the little buggers will get round it.
This act has been a massive headache for me, I’ve produced my risk assessment and now I’ve got to do one for children. Most of my spare time recently has been taken with preparing my forum for compliance with the act.
no need to ban anything just supervision. You can bet your bottom dollar that if parents could go to jail for it it would improve.
all this because a load of people signed a partition about an age restriction for face ache and other social media… well what are the little blighters doing on face ache. What are they doing with a phone at under 16.
Oh, I see, hadn’t heard of it before.
It’s the fines that have caused a lot of forums to close. Up to 18m has been bandied about!
fine for what??? allowing a minor to join?
For not complying with the rules, and allowing forbidden actions to be carried out on your forum.
I sometimes agree with others
Absolutely. Parents are A.) responsible for their brats. B.) supposed to set good examples to them. And if they’re reneging on even basic monitoring of their “computer” use then how can they know the brat is behaving, let alone at risk of been groomed and worse.
I think the government has deliberately soft pedalled all this time on regulation where it counts i.e. the sites that create the content, just to allow the eco system to fester and grow so rotten that everyone says “yes please, take away all our rights now”
If action was taken as soon as bad actors start up, we wouldn’t need an overbearing regulation now. But it’s like E-bikes and vapes. The government does nothing for the first 10 years until the problem becomes epic, then clamps down taking all the rights away.
