Pobla de Vallbona near Valencia, has anyone done the onion runs with all night tipping at the UK markets, cheaply made wooden pallets that could not hold the weight of the onions, not really pallets, just balsa wood, flimsy and breakable.
The onion sizes would be different classes, and in Spain they would mix up the load, which was a pain if the client in Leeds wanted class one and class three is not easy to get to.
The load would not be sold until you got in to the UK, so you had no idea of the unloading points until later on.
Loaded these many many times. used to backload through Modesto in Puig Market.
I’ve done plenty, But they’ve all been the same size and tipped at one place.
I don’t miss them.
Quite a while back, if it was quiet we’d load these for home. Turn up at the plant mid morning, only to find out they were still picked/packed!!!
Finally get loaded, then rush home to get them tipped, anything from 1 drop in 1 market, to 5 or 6 drops in 2 or 3 markets/ wholesalers!!!
Keep you fit rearranging the load for the next drops, one I did was a Cypriot owned depot in London, they were so rude, kept me waiting on double yellows for half the morning.
Never brought onions back, but I did bring a load of the orange coloured net sacks that they put them in. Dropped them off at a farm near Bury St.Edmunds

Would that have been in Tottenham by any chance■■? Sounds very familiar.
May have been Tottenham.I was polite on arrival only to be ignored and got the surly attitude.Whoever tipped there before me must have given them a hard time and took it out on me.20 workers there but nobody to tip me.So sat like a lemon until they decided to tip.I was pre-warned about them before getting there.
Tottenham would be fruity fresh or holland bazaar I would guess…I have to say though that after the whole ‘hello, how are you,the family,is the wife treating you well’ etc that they are quick enough…Bloody slow at Spits market though unless your early enough.

Holland bazaar yes a strange bunch and pretty sure they are all bipolar! Ok one minute mad the next, and that’s not including the customers who are just unpleasant!
Did a couple of loads for Swains in Strood in one of their fridges. Rubbish pallets…!! Still, a reload is still a reload I 'spose…!!
done plenty of cebollas home. 5 or 6 drops in uk. not had any pallets give way and always loaded in correct size and delivery order
