One Stop hgv, told I'll regret it

Well I’m off to One Stop for a stonking great pay rise. I’ll be earning the kind of money I paid out almost £3.5k to earn. I’ve been wanting to do that very type of hgv work for years but a few of the guys at work just don’t understand it.
I was running around lugging overloaded sack trucks up many flights of stairs and pushing cages loaded with coke for 14 years and I really miss that type of work.
The nay sayers are like "uuurh the cages will fall on you, you’ll get drinks explode on you, it’s really really hard graft"etc. Well no they won’t cause you push not pull. I had 14 years of drinks exploding me then spending the rest of the day all sticky. And as per my description of previous work…hard graft?? I think not.
The hardest part will be the planned night out plus the odd unplanned. Anyhow the guys slagging it off are of the mindset that container work is better. WTF!!! I’ve seen them sat around doing bugger all for hours and that just isn’t for me.
So is anyone on cage work? Love it hate it? Easier than the lazy ■■■■■■■■ make it out to be? And has anyone worked for one stop?

Oh yes I know it’s all curbside and a ■■■■■ to park at times. And I can handle irate people (former bus driver remember)

Forum Rule #3
Substituting asterisks for letters in certain words does not suddenly make them allowable.
The rule is: Type it, then just leave the auto-censor to do its work.
(There’s a clue in the name, which means that it doesn’t need any help!) dd.

There will always be drivers telling you that minimum effort is best. Getting involved with the load will keep you in much better physical condition without having to think about it. If you can do the labour and there is work near you at a good wage, no reason why not.

It really is a case of each to their own. Some drivers couldn’t be happier doing night trunks and sleeping during the day. For me that would be a recipe to an increasing waistline and little social interaction, but that is just me.

Hello, congratulations on the new job first of all. Nice pay rise you got yourself there

I do a bit of agency work for Tesco, so a similar thing, although I’m only moving the cages from the lorry onto a supermarket dock, or onto a tail lift for the staff to lug into the store. I can imagine the odd disaster with cages that have dodgy wheels (they are always the heavy ones), but with your experience, I’m sure it’ll be a piece of cake for you. The van job I did to save up for HGV licences was brewery work - that’s a different kettle of fish but I enjoyed the physical side of it, and my arms got a bit bigger

Let us know how you get on!

.

Owned by TESCO so you will have to go the RSU @Nursling and queue up with the others to get your cages off One stop is the poor relation for T&Cs compared to TESCO
