On break whilst on a bay

‘‘wheel nut’’ there are plenty of trucks out there where the cab phone and the radio’s are wired into the ignitions first stage, and drivers can carry there own food and drink, and have a right in law to have access to food and drink, not being one to do stupid hours of work, I’m not familiar with the laws on extreme hours, did pass my cpc in 1989, I think that gives my an excuse for not knowing and its probaly different now ,and not only have I never handed my genuine ignition keys in I under no circumstances have handed my mobile over, nor would I use my phone to contact an employer when theres a cab phone, with auto dial to depot, most of whom whose numbers I dont know or care to know, I simply love the notion that I’m going to ask someone if I can use my own phone, no wonder drivers are so [zb] payed, taking [zb] like that isn’t what I was put on earth for, been to plenty of refinerys and still dont give phones over, you people on tnuk are ■■■■■■ gutless, do you rip out your cab phone and hand that in also?

Another rebel without a cause… have you saved up all week for that wall of rant?

Maybe its just me, but if its about the money lost due to the wheels not turning, why not charge the RDC’s for exsessive waiting and loss of earnings. Oh thats right, its just so much easier to make the driver suffer for the inadequacies of the RDC’s.

They do DEMURRIDGE! :grimacing: driver trainers who DELIVER DCPC spout a load of carp! We pay this, we pay that! You pay ZIP! :grimacing: read it and weep pal it’s nothing to do with anyone, but the person in charge of the vehicle! THE DRIVER! another way of looking at it then shep! First parade 15 mins vehicle check: crossed hammers/ other work. Hitch up to trailer, same as other work 15 mins strap it up internally and externally! 30 mins! Drive 2.5 hrs to a ( LIDL ) where vostapa are known to frequent! 3 hrs! Sorry drive here’s a bleeper, wait till it bleeps! 2 hrs 59 mins later BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP BAY 69! unlucky sucker can’t move as I’ve now got to have 30 mins ( which counts as your first 15 min break ) tip on other work because vostapo are spying! Then pull out and find somewhere for your remainding 30 mins break! The rules are shot to [zb] pal and the best thing you could do is WRITE IT ON THE DRIVERS RUN SHEET! Not! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: Here you are vosa, my TM says put it on break, whilst tipping on a BAY! :grimacing: :grimacing: I do hope you’ve put your NAME TO THAT! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: YAWN YAWN YAWN

no haven’t waited all week ,waited 39 years with a clean licence, and a prang free driving history, when youv’e done the same then you can reply as well, and obviously that makes me quite patient really

If we follow your criteria hardly anyone would be able to take part in TNUK.

As it happens, I’ve done enough.

One of the main things I’ve learned in our Industry, if you are in our Industry that is…? is that length of service does not equate to ability.

What I suggest fella, is that you keep wittering on about how soft the youth of today are and I’ll keep on earning a good wage and helping my younger colleagues not become dreary old giffers like you.

I managed 21yrs without a bump, any points, any prangs - I also didn’t drive for 21 years

What the hell are you going on about? Why cant you take a break while someone is unloading your trailer?

Sorry mate IMHO that adds up to 5hrs 59 mins so he would only need a 15 min break to satisfy the WTD, which would clear him up to 9 hours at which point he would need another 15 mins, and remember he can take the 15 minutes of break out so that would be 9hrs 15 mins after “first parade” :unamused:

But in this scenario he could if he’d wanted to, put his tach on break when he got back into the cab and got a good couple of hours break in whilst waiting for the bleep bleep.

Seems you may need DCPC yourself?

I’d of had a split daily rest if i was doing ■■■■ all for 3hrs.

If you add it all up that would give him no time to walk to the office to get the bleeper sort out the paperwork and get back to the wagon.

Plus for rest you need to be able to dispose of your time as you see fit, so waiting with a bleeper would be a bit ropey, thats why I said break instead (not driving or doing other work).

I will agree with you on that and i know some drivers wouldnt be happy doing that but not so long ago i was used to having abuse thrown at me if i couldnt get done because i’d run out of hours and couldnt get back etc so for me i use to do things like that to save an agrument, any possible way to add abit of extra time to the day/week!

I read the comments on here about people sitting on a bay for 3hours then taking a 45 down the road afterwards and it often leaves me speachless, for a start its just the cheek of it and also how the hell do these people get their work done. Many times ive been sat there stressed out looking at what ive got to do thinking i just dont have enough time left, checking how many hours ive got left and whether i’ve got a 10 and a 15 still available use which often i wouldnt but i’d keep checking in the hope i’d made a mistake, yet theres people on here who pull over for a 20min power nap because their abit sleepy :astonished: .

Missing the point! Drive a couple of minutes over the six hour rule! :grimacing: :grimacing: most of you talk a good fight in the brew room! :grimacing: but once it comes to shooting from the lips!!!THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING! As for DCPC, four years under me belt free of charge from stobarts!!! Their driver trainers talk bullcarp too! :grimacing: :grimacing: remember vosa are interested about breaks/ POA are taken for commercial gain/ driver loses out on££££££££££££ many yellow bellies at Trafford park! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Do you mean the six hour rule (which is called the Working Time Directive by the way) that states you must take at least 15 mins (not 30 mins :unamused:) break before 6 hours? So where you get 30 mins from I have no idea unless one of the four days you took for driver training you either weren’t listening, or maybe as you say your trainer was spouting a lot of CARP.

P.S. you on a Friday night bender?

Started early if he is lol.

triple-tango:
usually hand in my own car key, not the truck key.

that works, till you forget or they give you wrong keys and your half way home before you realise you got the wrong keys.

Drive 2.5 hrs to a ( LIDL )

I don’t think anyone has yet suggested that they would instruct their drivers or have been instructed to record a break
while on a bay if they were in fact unloading the lorry themselves.
Not much of the rest of that post makes sense.

Regards,
Nick.

last few days my run consists of start at 12:00 drive to Membury, arriving between 2:30 and 3 depending on traffic and back on bay, they open roller door on trailer. head down till 5pm on break then back to yard arriving at around 7.30 drop trailer and fuel up and home by 8:15pm

Another one is Coventry to Magor, 1 hour tip then back.

Or to Penrith , wait up to an hour for Scottish trailer then 3.5 hours back to yard. (guaranteed 9hours shift!)

OK as i am happy doing 8 hour shifts (even better if i do less  )

As long as i am not doing work it is on break, even when m/way closed due to a bridge jumper once,
