Olive Branch For Kate

We got a bit hot headed in discussions Kate and it serves no purpose to be anti this and this and anti this person said this etc etc,so I call a truce and hope for no detrimonial posts between us,sorry if it went too far and I would like for the “Expats Forum” to continue as was before without retorting to a free for all,Hows that?
Believe it or not I do have admiration for America and its citizens, spent 8 months there in 2002,and healthy debate should continue, sometimes in jest and might not sound as such but it is.

I completely agree… thanks!

i have often wondered why people move from one country to another…obviously it is supposed to be for the better…better wages…conditions…health reasons…social security etc…and cant really blame someone that has been persecuted especially in the african states…those migrants…asylum seekers head to britain for the free handouts that we so freely give along with the housing and benefits that go with it…but…i have always believed and continue to do so that hgv drivers who migrate to foreign shores…only do so because they cannot find employment in their own land…or because they want to drive a left hand drive cos no one here will give them the chance…for i believe that when you weigh up all the costs…they are in fact worse off than when they lived here…of course there are a few exceptions…no offence meant…but thats what i believe…

People have their reasons for moving to other countries… whatever they may be. You can’t blame people who move to improve their lives. People from impoverished countries can’t be blamed for taking advantage of the generous welfare programs of other countries… if you were in that situation, and it meant a better way of life for your family, you’d do it too. Alot of these people have a hard time feeding their families in their home country. Its just a simple matter of survival. I’m sure if the same opportunities existed at home, they’d choose to stay there.

What I don’t understand, and never will, are people who move to other countries, then spend their time criticizing the country, people, and its culture for not being like them. THAT is what drives me nuts. There seems to be very little acceptance or appreciation for differences… only condescension. People should be more aware of what they’re moving into… the financial aspect seems to be the only consideration when making that decision, and there’s so much more to it than that. And different isn’t inferior… its just different.

I can’t understand why a truck driver would move to another country just to drive a left hand drive truck… what difference does it really make?

Who’d do a terrible thing like that? :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

if i had the money to move to canada i would and hope to one day.but its not to drive a left hand drive truck or because i cant get a job here ive been driving artics 9years uk /europe so ive had my fair share of jobs .i want to move because i believe my family will have a better life there.id drive a truck because thats all i know.in an ideal world i’ll win the lottery and emigrate and do somthing completely different from driving or just not do anything

Well then, come on over Carl! We need a few more Brits to keep the driving standard up before they import all the drivers from various subcontinents :stuck_out_tongue:
