Older wagons still earning their corn

whisperingsmith:
Johnny Skewes has run this one for 40 years delivering, mainly sacks of potatoes & veg, to restaurants & pubs around Penzance & West Cornwall.

He finally retired it a few months ago and his son is starting a full restoration.

Good to hear that it’s going to be restored/kept -

We saw it a couple of years back

I think that takes the cake (for mine anyway), it beats the 69 Commer I came across. AF would have been a Cornish plate, have they had it since new?

Not quite, it was brought to Penzance new as one of a pair with registrations JAF 27E and JAF 28E by long-since defunct business Cornish Produce

Johny Skewes bought it six years old for £400 - still has the same engine!!

There`s not many R reg. Volvo FL 10 6 wheeled rigids as tidy as this one.

Photographed at Thirsk Auction Mart , last Thursday.

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Oakbank of Dumfries have ran this MAN since it was practically new it came on hire from TRIO Truck Rental and John Bogie bought it and although Colin the driver now splits his day between the MAN & a DAF 8wh hook loader it is still earning. Eddie.

Hi Dave, well to be honest its very rare for anyone but me to drive it so I do nurse her along,I could take a Mercedes or an M.A.N but I would rather drive the old girl, mind you it is at a cost…she had a new radiator and exhaust box last week but she does earn her keep so the company cant grumble.Marc
