Older wagons still earning their corn

Aye & hes running a motor that dont have to be plugged into a diagnostic gadget to tell him what is wrong with it, Of course thats if he has got a problem, whick I very much doubt & good luck to him with his Leyland , The ones we ran made us a few bob & were not much bother, We allways got good long term service out of them, Its a pity their not still about to-day, Regards Larry.

He used to run half a dozen constructors and Reivers.I expect he’s got a few spares.
Cheers Dave.

hi, this old ERF still going strong see it regular on the A1 heading north, bumper

This Tipper is still going strong & is going for its MOT On Monday, It belongs to my mate from Seaton Burn David Lowdon Who is the son of Arthur Lowdon who is retired of course, But still has all his marbles when it comes to wagons, or even the older type motor cars, He is a genious with mechanical things, He can even repair electric washers & old hoovers, Now in his 80s but still good crack, Regards Larry.

Pictured in Gt. Yarmouth this week,

I dont know if this tidy E.R.F. qualifies for " Older wagons still earning their corn ", but its certainly carrying it.
The ex - N.W.F. ( North West Farmers ) bulker has been well looked after during its service in the U.K., and
it is now in use in Malta.
Photographed a couple of years ago , the E.R.F. awaits the ferry to cross to Gozo island.

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

This was still running around a year or so ago!

Are those motors parked up just outside Norwich haddy?

When you look at all these old motors still working i would imagine the profit margins must be fairly respectable for the owners. If you have got a good old motor that has been well looked it should still be reliable, you don’t need a laptop to fix it if it does go wrong, no finance hence you can pick and choose your work, park the bugger up if the rates aren’t up to much rather than chasing any old work just to make the monthly payments (no fool like a busy fool!) Look at a modern 8 wheeler on tarmac, 32 tonnes and they carry less than an old FL at 30 tonnes!. That’s progress for you. :frowning:

:

I know of a lady od who runs a K reg Foden 3000 series 8w. She keeps it going on as many scrapyard bits as possible. She gets the same rate as someone with a new motor yet when the work’s slack in January, she’ll be parked up and jetting off to Jamaica…
