Old trucker needs help

Hello all,

My 83 year old grandad was a driver for Vanguard in Bristol and a trucker for his entire working life. He recently had a severe stroke and now cannot speak very well.

I loved hearing all his driving stories as much as he liked telling me. But he no longer can.

I’m asking for help from anyone who can post any pictures of Vanguard lorries etc in the 70s to 90s.

I plan to print them to show him and stimulate some improvement in his condition.

He is Ross Herbert if anyone ever worked with him.

Any response greatly appreciated.

Hi,Sorry to hear about your grandad. I take it you are talking about Vanguard Engineering who specialised in machinery removals who’s main depot was in London but had a Bristol depot ?

Yes, I that’s the company. He was always proudly pointing out random objects or factories and saying ‘I put that there!’

Iv got vague memories as a child of going for a ride in the lorry up and down the M32 and always went to the company children’s Christmas party!

That picture is great. Any others or memories of working with Vanguard that anyone can contribute would be a brilliant help.

Kind regards

This is everything i have on Vanguard, i hope it brings back some memories for your grandad.

Cheers, this is very much appreciated. The plan is to print and laminate what I can and get it to him in hospital somehow. Thanks again.

Cheers mate, I could quite possibly be his lorry given the location and date. Really appreciate the response Iv had on this forum.

A Google image search for Vanguard haulage brings up lots of pictures.
Your grandad is lucky to have you on his team, best wishes to you both.
