Or the base on one side settled, throwing too much weight to the right hand side.
Maybe there is a big hole there that we can’t see.
The hole theory might just go with the workmans tent on the opposite pavement
If you look where the offside front wheel is it does look like the setts have sunk a bit.
Anyway glad it didn’t happen recently 'cos I usually have a coffee outside the cafe at the bottom of those stairs when I’m in Durham!
Maybe It’s up and over.
Thankfully the bloke got out alive.
Some people call them a dumper and I bet he did!
Obviously neglected to make sure the kingpin was locked.
If you look closely, it appears that the turntable is still attached to the kingpin.
Well spotted…and apparently no 5th wheel on the unit…
Two and two do seem to add up here.
So how do 5th wheels detach from units? Must be very rare?
I reckon if you hang the best part of 8 tonne from the fifth wheel eventually something will part ways
You often see pictures of units dangling from the trailers over parapets, but I reckon if they go over with more of a jerk, the snatch movement might add to the likelihood of the turntable being wrenched from the chassis.
According to the comments, it was the tipper body that took the brunt, which is just as well.
The instances of seeing the unit still attached is what prompted my comment.
How many bolts hold a turntable onto the chassis? 8? Each at 18mm??
One of those bolts might have an 8T strain rating, and a 6T shear rating.
All guesstimates and open to correction.
I reckon that the jerk had already exited the cab!
Bit a wild guess, but perhaps the inlet sections of chassis rail to which the turntable was bolted parted company with the main rails.
Could it have been a sliding 5th wheel. They always looked iffy to me.
