This artic was an Oxford BRS Morris Commercial ,(Saurer engine) one of many early 50s delivering Prestcold refrigerators out of Pressed Steel Cowley and fitted with hydraulic tail lifts .artics were not well liked by drivers those days particularly if a return load was hand ball ! i cannot say how the accident happened though --toshboy
Pic from the local newspaper- One of the two Leyland units operated by Thermalite Ytong from their Reading depot, I actually rode in it once when my father drove for them but luckily not on that day! I think it is Oxford Road in Reading, the driver of the Commer four wheeler was killed alas. NMP
Pete.
One of Webster’s from Wirksworth that came to grief, again NMP.
Pete.
This was in Bakewell, I would guess in the mid sixties, lost his brakes coming down the long incline from Moyash into Bakewell.
Not my pic. Borrowed from Toprun,( whose latest batch of pics are rather good imo)

Don’t look good for the occupants of the 1100
Given that the people in the pic are standing about nonchalantly I would guess that the car was unoccupied when it was hit. At least I hope so

Fair comment but there does seem to be a lot of people standing around doing frec all. Somethings will never change
