Old Truck Accident Pics

Sorry if I sound a smart arse, but the M1 crash was above Leagrave High St, J12-11, a long way from Ridgemont.
And I think the second pic is M4 at Hungerford.
I stand to be corrected.

M1 MOTORWAY (MULTIPLE CRASH)

HC Deb 17 March 1972 vol 833 cc933-8 933
§Mr. Hastings (by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the multiple crash which occurred yesterday on the M1 at Ridgmont in Bedfordshire.
§The Minister for Transport Industries (Mr. John Peyton) I very much regret to have to inform the House that nine people died and 51 were injured in a multiple crash on the M1yesterday in fog. About 120 vehicles were involved. I have, of course, called for a full report.
I should like to express my sympathy and that of the House with those injured and with the relatives of those who died. I am sure that the House would also wish to express its thanks to those who took part in the relief work.

Thank you for your input, I too thought it was between Luton and Dustable, Only when I researched for the information I saw the above Part taken from the Google search.
Not sure if it helps?
Regards, Gordon.

They didn’t have the kit they have now - but they didn’t have the H&S BS either - So I bet they just got on with it & didn’t cause so much mayhem either !!

Could it be the aftermath of a bombing raid? The mudguards have the white blackout markings.

Fair shout, just noticed the sandbags underneath the arches.

Is the bloke in front of the Jelks rigid , ready with the starting handle to crank it over & drive off ?

My Dad had furniture vans during the war. He was in London loaded for Lancashire with a young lad on his first trip as mate when the sirens started. He kept going, as that seemed the most sensible thing to do. The lad said ‘Makes you feel safer having a roof over your head doesn’t it’.

Dad said he didn’t have the heart to tell him that the ‘roof’ was canvas!

At first glance it looks a though nothing is really going on until you look a bit closer and see that he has lost some
of his load which has rolled down the street hiting a car and some houses.

Imagine this happening today, it would be all over Sky News, the whole area sealed off and headless chickens in hi vis jackets all over the scene. :unamused:
I think i would have reversed back down the hill back on to the flat in case a couple more broke loose,
the locals seem to be enjoying though, a bit of action on their street for a change.

my dad worked for jelks before I was born in 53 he told me they used to move and deliver snooker tables they used to get a lot of work lots of snooker halls then maybe thats why he was such a good snooker player, I think they had a place in north london somewhere maybe someone on here knows where, that does look like a blitz incident as I cannot see why that O type artic is sitting on the kelks van, not like the O type would have had much momentum. if you blow the picture up I am sure the trailer says jelks on the side maybe it was blown up there, maybe my old man drove one of them motors. fredm
