hi classicman.
i only remember new street motors being based at new street in irthlingborough.owned by don jackson(the original diesel dan) atlas express were behind the cresta cafe.do you remember cresta being the main dodge agents, hugh porter moved on and opened a garage in thrapston, cheers ,diesel.

Don’s partner with NSM was Roy Hockey, I remember going to Revo lighting in Birmingham to pick up two second hand Ford D Series tractor units.

You can just see the revo fords at the back, and how they were repainted in mattel colours

And this is some of the finedon nsm fleet and a view of the loading bank dad had dug out

Hi Mick, great looking pictures, nice job on my old ERF, I will have a sort through what i have here, love the old 2800’s of Dave’s i drove the last one he had ! i think it was C301 OBD but not sure, the one of that M plate must have been taken at Wymington garage, new KM Bedford skip motor waiting for paint job? take a look on the Ex pats site on here and look for “steve’s pictures” gives you an idea of life here.

Tony, what’s with that Finedon phone number? never seen one like that.

The Finedon phone number. NSM were based behind the Cresta Service Station on the A6 at Finedon

Tony thanks for showing those NSM pics. Its surprising how many motors they actually ran.

hi

yes quite a few, plus he had some at the other depots, and there were the caravan transporters at finedon as well. I’m gradually scanning photos from the 2 albums i have.

i f i remember right the finedon phone numbers were ’ finedon 442’ or ’ finedon 616’ saved space on the door doing it like that

ok now i see it, at first i thought the 442 was a code ! but it was before the 680 numbers preceded the main number, IE when i lived at the prince the number was 226 but became 680 226,

Brilliant to see Don’s old TK and Traders again !!..thank Christ someone took pictures, great posting those

I drove your Dad over to Birmingham to collect those Ford D series They were GFD256D GFD257D and JFD 914D they came with 6 trailers and had hardly been used I dont think your Dad got a lot of sleep that week he was doing two trips a night I vaguely remember you coming with us but you could’nt have been very old. I loved your Dad nothing was impossible for him and I think Roy Hockey always had a job keeping him in check. That TK van WBN 995 was a favourite of mine, your Dad replaced the Bedford engine in it with a Leyland 350, last time I saw that it was on the outskirts of Oxford no signwriting on it but under the paintwork you could just make out Rosebud Mattel and it still sounded good. I remember being with your Dad in that old Albion pulling one of those Ex Revo trailers we were coming through Wellingborough down towards the Hind Hotel I dont think the brakes were up to much and I don’t think we were far off going through the reception of the Hind . HAPPY DAYS.

I think some of the best looking (if not ‘old hat’) motors based in the Northamptonshire area were Cranes Fluid Systems ERF E Series based on Moulton Park Northampton. Although late in the day their 8-leggers had all the attributes of a classic 50’s lorry. I think they out sourced their transport so it’s highly likely these ’ little darlings’ probably ended up in Malta !!

The other picture shouldn’t really be listed under ‘Old’ Northamptonshire companies but 8-wheelers on work other than tippers are becoming rare birds these days so I thought I would include it. Encon run two or three of these pleasing curtain siders out of Brackmills, Northampton delivering insulation boards in the main.

Does anyone out there know who ran this ageing Foden in the Wellingborough area? The picture was taken near the old BRS depot in Croyland Road, Wellingborough in the late 80’s, early 90’s.

The three ERF KV2’s operated by Whitworth’s. Took me years to finally get pictures of them all.

I would’ve been about 10 or 11 I suppose when he bought those motors, here’s a better photo of wbn in bilofix colours, i’m pretty sure dad stretched it as wellnas planting the leyland in it, I remember going with him and the vibration was pretty awful as the prop was out of balance, he liked tk’s and d series as they were really good motors for upgrading . He did another bedford/leyland years later, and d series on caravan transport were never really standard spec

remember crosley and beal my uncle worked for them what about F W Randall ?

Nsm wasn’t just parcels, don jackson in the centre on his way to st tropez with mobile homes, this was the first of many trips and the 1 that had the most problems, namely dby blew up at montelimar and ford sent the wrong parts.anyway dad was out there for 3 weeks, mum wasn’t too pleased, but it resulted in many happy holidays in france

here you go mick
