Pretty much the same as me moved there from Gateshead in 1970 and moved away again in 1982, we have probably crossed paths at some time, you still got all the old LPs and 45s from the RCA then, the woman who lived next door to us used to work there and bring us records back every day. the good owld days eh. There was always plenty places for me dad to park his wagon in Washington with all the industrial estates aand half finished roads.

truckers boy:

kevmac47:
Hello truckers boy, you will have a few of us old gits wondering who your dad is come on own up!!! Last I heard of Ritchie Wright he was still running one vehicle but that was about a year ago. I know he is a year or two older than me so he may have retired now. Hope that helps regards kevmac47. PS. 80 weeks to go!!!

My dad is Ian Warwick (spot the last name  )
My granda is James richard Lambton - was known as Dicky lambton also worked for gallagher’s, applegarths, trailerco, gurteens & a hell of alot more.

Hi Guy’s, I just came upon this and its what I was looking for all along- I do remember your Granda Dicky Lambton as he was one of the first drivers I spoke to on my first day as an apprentice fitter sept 1985 and his was the first vehicle I helped service It was a Volvo F10 TFT499Y one of four we had along with two Daf 3300 and a couple of F7 tractor units X115/116JRG. I believe the F10 went to Reeve trspt but I saw your Granda a few years later and he remembered me but by then I was workshop foreman. I wonder if he remembers those two apprentices starting out on their careers way back in 1985. I have a picture of one of the F10s TFT497Y but thats about it which is why I was looking for this site in the first place. I believe I was the longest serving fitter at Gurteens so will be able to remember most of the fleet reg/drivers too. Hope this helps KG3

f7sidd:
heres some for oldsid and gurty…

Wow… Thanks for those f7sidd…be patient and i’ll post some more on here. Hopefully by the weekend?

Some of them from before my time but most I worked on and remember the drivers well-Like jimmy Gray, John young, tommy Wise and I think that is Topper Brown coming out of the side road in the new Scow ender 8W which would make it C170ONL as Billy Burden had C168ONL and Derek Catterer had C169ONL the first 3 Volvo FL7 and first with Harsh underfloor tipping gear, also that G35UJR Scow at the Haragate show never went out as that as I seem to remember we needed more bulkers for a job and it got re-bodied and ended up as G478 which Billy Burden ended up with after C168ONL. KG3

gurty:
Never say never though. Watch this space

They still look good no matter how far away from the original livery- classic colours !!!

gurty:
Hi lads, As promised…Some old pics of Gurteen’s LTD…Hope it brings back lots of memories…Dad doesn’t know about the Trader one…As he was the one that bumped it!!!

And he had the nerve to sack me because I burst a tyre!!!    Those pictures of the F7,s are very nostalgic for me, the white kerb in the bottom left will be the fuel island where I burst the tyre on a loaded trailer. Does he remember the incident. Nowt lost I went back on the skips for a while till I was forgiven then back on the benders a little later. hows he doin and your uncle Albert

Sid

Hi Sid,
He can’t remember the tyre because it was a regular occurance and his memory isn’t what it used to be!! After he retired, I had a fitter reverse a loaded 8 wheeler over there and wipe out both of the diesel pumps and lost a load of fuel too!!! How it didn’t flip, i’ll never know  Both he and Albert are fine thanks, both enjoying retirement.

Hi Sid, the fitter that claimed the pumps one night was Trev Parnaby as I was in the workshop at the time and had to call the transport manager up so we could stop the leek. That island had some hammer !!! KG3

f7sidd:
Well worth the wait, any more Gurty

Hi Gurty,Sid, This brings back memories. I belive that is A832 Billy Burden’s wagon at this end. !!!

Good times

Here’s a name I haven’t heard mentioned on this thread. P R (Parky) Bates had about a dozen or more wagons at Iveston next to Leadgate. Anybody remember ■■?

Yes I remember him, his son in law Gerald Spence took over from Parky, Gerald was one of the leading lights in the fuel tax campaign and led a party down to the demos in London. The cattle trucks were parked on a hillside at the farm, no problem with flat batteries!!

Aye, I remember Parky Bates,s wagons red Cattle Boxes, wherever you went on your travels you never failled to see them, same as Cookies, & Salkeld Bros, + Gordon Wilkinson, the good old days /eh… Regards Larry.

Great to hear from you Billy’s son. Thats a good picture of him in happy times. He was another character that made this job so much fun in our younger days, I had some good laughs with your dad when we worked for Waughs. regards kevmac47.
