Larry wrote; Another name Bob Dowling, went to work for Fergy, Had father Dowling name plate showing in his windscreen,a bit of a loner I thought when he was there, but he was ok to get on with.
Bob had been there a while along with a young Cliff Natton and Lenny North a bit later, they were still there when I went to work for Ouseburn around Jan 89, it was a sorry shadow of its former self and badly run by ■■■■ Steenburgs son, Nicholas. When I left to start at Fergies Sunderland depot I think Ouseburn closed about six months later. Len went to Ramage, Bob to Blyth and I think Cliff went to the Coop. We did a lot of subby work out of Blyth for Fergy (like a lot of others) at the time, as well as Alcan and the odd Lead Works load, I think every driver must have loaded there at one time! My Dad recalled he taught Bob how to drive an artic, like most new starters they told the gaffers they could drive anything to get the job so a few quick lessons followed, he must have done okay being there 30 years later. They were good to me when I was there.
Cheers Franky.

what about transmotors [little bobbie]
office on the quay. jeh.
Aye , Bobby Coats what a patter merchant,I think he ended up working for Joe at All Day Transport,he used to get into Gordie Dunns cafe looking for motors with return loads to offer. Great stuff. blasts from the past. Regards Larry.
Hello Jimmy Logan, what are you up to now ?> remember when we were at Shorties on the Scweppes Job we were the top paid men in those days , eh, but we earned it, load run tip & load run back to the valley & tip & load for the next trip, we were the grafters to say the least. Regards Larry.
Jeh…,Speaking of Bobby Coats, Nalla Transport, who had an office on the Milk Market, was his younger Bro. & Old Tommy who was a shunter for Albert Blake was another Bro, haulage must have been in their blood, Bobby was a great traffic manager , he told more porkies than anyone I know, keeping drivers from the south hanging about for phantom loads. Regards Larry.I Think he might have worked for J &H Transport at some time.?
